Connection release timers and settings

A method of carrying out dual connectivity with a secondary access node and an apparatus is provided. A mode of operation of a user equipment is determined in dependence on the presence of bearers mapped to the secondary access node. Operating in a first mode occurs when it is determined that one or more bearers are mapped to a secondary access node. Operation in a second mode occurs when it is determined that no bearers are mapped to the secondary no access node. The second mode comprises limiting a listening time to a downlink channel from the secondary access node with respect to the first mode.

Method and apparatus for offloading network traffic

Improved mechanisms for wireless cellular access using coverage extension techniques are described. A UE needing to use coverage extension to request access to a prospective serving cell detects cells (other than the prospective serving cell) on its frequency, and then investigates each such cell (for example, by attempting to read its system information block and, if the system information block can be read, determining if the cell supports access using coverage extension. If detected cells do not support coverage extension, the UE does not use coverage extension techniques to request access, but if all detected cells support coverage extension, the UE requests access using coverage extension techniques.

Methods and apparatus for control of coverage extension techniques for access to prospective serving cells

There are provided measures for improvements in dual connectivity for different access networks. Such measures exemplarily comprise providing control in a control plane for a terminal (UE) for access to a first access network (5G), wherein a coverage of the first access network (5G) at least partly overlaps a coverage of a second access network (4G), the terminal is capable of having access to the first access network (5G) and to the second access network (4G) in parallel, and access for the terminal to a respective access network (4G, 5G) is routed in a user plane via a respective distinct access network entity (eNB, SGAP) and to a respective (compatible) gateway (S-GW, uGW).

The method further includes receiving from the at least one communication device a report including measurement information of the at least one multimedia broadcast multicast service capable cell. The method finally includes initiating selecting at least one cell on at least one carrier for the at least one communication device, the at least one carrier including one or more cells capable of providing a multimedia broadcast multicast service.

Cell selection depending on MBMS capability

Format of a downlink control channel for a user equipment UE is changed in conjunction with switching the UE between being enabled for cross carrier scheduling and being disabled for cross carrier scheduling. The changed format is used on at least one serving cell of the UE's configured set of component carriers CCs. In one embodiment the changed format comprises an explicit carrier indicator field CIF for the case in which the switching is from disabled to enabled; and the changed format has no explicit CIF when the switching is from enabled to disabled. In another embodiment switching from disabled to enabled comprises the UE's configured set of CCs being changed from one to multiple cells; and switching from enabled to disabled comprises the UE's configured set of CCs being changed from multiple cells to one cell. In one embodiment the changed format is implicit.

Carrier indicator field usage and configuration in carrier aggregation

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for user equipment (UE) capability signaling for dual connectivity (DC) are provided. One method may include transmitting to at least one UE, by a network node, a message comprising a flag indicating that the apparatus supports dual connectivity and/or wants to receive UE capability indications of DC support. The method further includes, based on the presence of the flag, receiving, from the at least one UE, the dual connectivity capabilities of the at least one UE.

Capability signaling for dual connectivity

A method and apparatus are provided. The method includes providing a primary secondary cell by a second node for a user equipment operating in dual connectivity with a first node and the second node; and receiving a request from the user equipment requesting that the primary secondary cell provide the functionality of a primary cell for the user equipment when a radio link between the user equipment and a primary cell provided by the first node is lost.
