A synchronization detecting apparatus includes a counter, an error detector, and a line length generator. The counter counts to a predetermined counter value in response to a clock signal. The error detector generates an error, which is the difference between a current counter value received from the counter and a previous line length, in response to a synchronization flag signal. The line length generator generates a current line length based on a compensated error and the predetermined counter value. The synchronization flag signal has an active level at a transitioning edge of a synchronization pulse signal contained in an input signal.

A video decoder removes noise caused by a luminance signal component when separating a chrominance signal from a composite video baseband signal. The video decoder includes a first signal generator generating a first signal, a second signal generator generating a second signal, a third signal generator differentiating the first and second signals and performing a predetermined operation on the differentiated signals to generate a third signal, an operating unit performing a predetermined operation on the third signal to output the chrominance signal, a fourth signal generator performing a predetermined operation on the first and second signals to generate a fourth signal having a value corresponding to the amplitude of the chrominance signal, and a noise removal unit correcting the chrominance signal in response to the third and fourth signals to remove luminance component noise included in the chrominance signal.

Using the apparatus, cross-luminance and cross-chrominance can be substantially eliminated from the chrominance and luminance signals.

Apparatus for separating a luminance signal and a chrominance signal from an NTSC composite video signal

An imaging apparatus and method provides a wide dynamic range and is capable of displaying an improved color in low-luminance regions, and an image signal processing method thereof. In the imaging apparatus, a first process divides the voltage level of an analog image signal into a plurality of sections and amplifies the analog image signal with a plurality of different gains according to each section, and a second process converts the analog image signal amplified with the different gains into a digital signal, and non-linearly gamma-corrects the digital signal according to each section. The plurality of different gains may be inversely proportional to the luminance level of the analog image signal. Thus, the level of an analog signal in a low-luminance region is amplified with a gain greater than in a high-luminance region before gamma correction, so that signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio in the low-luminance region of an image is increased, thereby improving sensitivity of the image following gamma correction. Accordingly, a wide dynamic range is provided. An optional chrominance controller of the imaging apparatus controls chrominance gain of the digital signal and outputs the result, thereby displaying an improved color in low-luminance regions of the image.

An apparatus and method for controlling focus using an adaptive filter are provided. The apparatus includes an adaptive low-pass filter for covering an image signal captured through the lens with a mask of a predetermined size, comparing brightness level differences between a central pixel located in the center of the mask and pixels adjacent to the central pixel with a threshold value, multiplying a weight calculated in response to the comparison result by the brightness level of a concerned pixel in the mask, adding together the multiplication results of all the pixels, and outputting the addition result as an adaptively low-pass filtered image signal. A high-pass filter filters a high-frequency component of the adaptively low-pass filtered image signal. An absolute value calculator calculates the absolute values of the image signal in which the high-frequency component is filtered, and an accumulator accumulates the absolute values and outputs the accumulated value as the focus value of the captured image signal.

Apparatus and method for controlling focus using adaptive filter

An image frequency restoration system for a single CCD color video camera which comprises decorrelation modules, frequency restoration modules and a multiplexer. The decorrelation modules are for receiving degraded RGB component signals image-processed by the single CCD and outputting the RGB component signals decorrelated color components between individual channels. The frequency restoration modules receive the RGB component signals from the decorrelation modules, restore a frequency component lost in the channel and output the RGB component signals. Thus, signal detected by a single CCD is processed, compensated for degradation and restored to an original state.

An image restoration system for a single CCD color video camera which comprises decorrelation modules, restoration modules and a multiplexer. The decorrelation modules are for receiving degraded RGB component signals image-processed by the single CCD and outputting the RGB component signals decorrelated color components between individual channels. The restoration modules receive the RGB component signals from the decorrelation modules, restore a frequency component lost in the channel and output the RGB component signals. Thus, signal detected by a single CCD is processed, compensated for degradation and restored to an original state.

The present invention relates to a sound volume control device whereby the sound volume of an audio device is automatically controlled as a function of background noise. The apparatus includes a background noise detector means for generating driving signals; means for generating a control signal corresponding to the driving signals; and means for controlling the audio signal in accordance with the control signal, thereby providing the most suitable sound volume according to the background noise without manually controlling a volume switch. In a preferred arrangement, the driving signals are also used to drive the segments of a digit display, to give a visual indication of the sound pressure of the background noise.
