A method, system, and medium are provided for facilitating navigation data updates. One embodiment of the method includes receiving an indication that a navigation route is unavailable. The indication that the navigation route is unavailable is provided by a user of a mobile device. A notification of the unavailable navigation route is communicated to a navigation server. The unavailable navigation route is excluded in subsequently provided navigation routes.

Facilitating navigation data updates

A system is provided for presenting media instances on communication devices. The system includes a processor on a communication device, a source component, and a target component. The source component, when executed by the processor, parses a selected media container to identify a set of media instances of a first type and constructs a media instance list that comprises the identified set of media instances, wherein the selected media container is inaccessible by an activated media presenter. The target component, when executed by the processor, enables the activated media presenter to present at least two of the set of media instances from the media instance list to a user interface without deactivating between presentations.

Presenting media instances on a communication device

Systems, products, and methods are disclosed for enabling access to encrypted data stored on a portable storage medium. In one embodiment, an attempt to communicate with a certain intranet is made. If this attempt succeeds, then access is granted to the data stored on the portable storage device, but if access to the intranet is not granted, then access to the data stored on the portable storage device is also not granted. Denying access can include preventing the portable storage device from even being recognized by a requesting device, being recognized but not presented, or can include showing that such encrypted data exists, but denying access to the data in an unencrypted format.

Restricting access to data on portable storage media based on access to a private intranet

Methods and computer-readable media are provided to determine optimal locations at which it is suggested that a mobile device download portions of a map corresponding to an initial location and a destination location. A navigation server receives an indication of an initial location and a destination location from the mobile device and retrieves a map corresponding to a route between the two locations. A first download location is determined based on one or more of signal strength, a time of day that the map is likely to be downloaded, periods of known high saturation, a battery level of the mobile device, and/or a cost associated with roaming. Using one or more of these factors, the first download location is determined and is communicated to the mobile device.

Determining optimal map downloading locations

Methods and products are provided for facilitating a conference call. One embodiment includes receiving an incoming call from a participant who is to participate in the conference call but who does not have authority to start the call, identifying a chairperson who does have authority to start the conference call, and automatically notifying the chairperson that the participant is waiting for the conference call to begin.

Increasing the likelihood that a conference call will occur

A system and method for improving the usability of a touch screen on a moving mobile device are provided. Upon determining the mobile device is moving in a pattern that is consistent with a person walking while carrying the mobile device, a new interface that is easier to use is displayed. The new interface may be easier to use than a standard interface by showing less action buttons, zooming into a portion of the standard interface, and/or by requiring less user input to complete a requested task.

Enhancing usability of a moving touch screen

A method, system, and medium are provided for providing tactile feedback in association with contact to a touchscreen display of a mobile device. One embodiment of the method includes receiving a touch input to a touchscreen display area provided by a user of the mobile device. The touch input selects a predetermined region within the touchscreen display area. Incident to the touch input of the predetermined region, a mechanical indicator on the rear of the mobile device is physically manipulated to provide an indication to the user that the predetermined region was selected by the user.

Providing tactile feedback incident to touch actions

Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, methods, and computer-readable media for presenting a mute indicator to a caller when the caller is attempting to provide input to a call that has been muted. In particular, a determination is made that a mute function is engaged during a call. An area surrounding a calling system, such as a phone, is then monitored by a monitoring system to determine whether a caller is attempting to provide input to the call. A determination is then made that a caller is attempting to provide input to the call. The determination may be based on a caller providing a threshold volume of voice input within a threshold area of proximity near the calling system. A mute indicator is then presented to the caller to notify the caller that the call has a mute function engaged.

A system and method for disambiguating a selection made on a touch-screen display is provided. Embodiments of the present invention determine when selectable objects are either too small or too closely spaced together to be easily selected through a touch-screen display. The selectablity of these objects may be improved by presenting them for selection in an enhanced presentation. The enhanced presentation may be generated by zooming into selectable objects or rerendering the display to increase the space between the selectable objects. Display of the enhanced presentation may be triggered by detecting selection of a selectable object.

Selectability of objects on a touch-screen display

A system and method for managing bandwidth used by videos in a wireless telecommunications network is provided. In one embodiment, the videos originate at mobile devices generating videos of a single event such as a concert, sporting event, graduation, or other event attended by multiple users. The mobile devices may communicate the videos to social networking websites where the videos may be viewed by multiple users. Embodiments of the present invention conserve bandwidth by selecting one or more of the videos of the single event to send to each of the destinations specified by all of the videos capturing the event. An instruction is then sent to each of the mobile devices generating nonselected video streams to discontinue transmission of the video streams.

Conserving bandwidth by restricting videos communicated in a wireless telecommunications network

Methods and systems are provided for determining the absence of a personal area network (PAN) device and for responsively presenting the time of the last detected presence of the PAN device. In an exemplary embodiment, a PAN device encounters a triggering event and responsively checks and determines that another PAN device is absent. Upon detecting the absence of the other PAN device (such as by detecting an absence of communication from the other PAN device), the exemplary PAN device presents via a user interface an indication of the time that it last detected presence of the other PAN device. By presenting the time of the last detected presence of the other PAN device, the user of the PAN device may be able to recall where he or she was at that time, which may help the user find the misplaced PAN device, hopefully at that location.

Methods and systems for presenting the time of the most recently detected presence of a personal area network device

A method, system, and computer-readable storage media is provided for consolidating an operating status of a mobile device. APIs and applications operate in the mobile device to collect various data associated with the operation of the mobile device. The mobile device can be configured by a user or a service provider system to determine which data to collect. The collected data is consolidated through calculations resulting in a single value or variable that indicates the operating health of the mobile device. A visual representation of the single value or variable is provided in a display at the mobile device to illustrate the health of the mobile device to the user.

Service summary indicator

Systems, products, and methods are disclosed for performing a method of enabling a mobile device to perform a method of automatically associating a string with an outgoing-called number. One embodiment of the method includes, incident to at least initiating an outgoing call, establishing a communications link between a mobile device and a remote computing device through a wireless telecommunications network. The method further includes sending to the remote computing device an indication or phone number associated with the outgoing call when a label is not associated with that phone number. This label would otherwise identify an entity associated with said phone number. An embodiment continues in which a string that was identified based on the phone number is received at the mobile device. Finally, the mobile device modifies (which can including initializing) a label associated with the former mere phone number based on the string received.
