This disclosure relates to reduced power consumption OLED displays at reduced cost for reduced information content applications, such as wearable displays. Image quality for wearable displays can be different than for high information content smart phone displays and TVs, where the wearable display has an architecture that in includes, for example, an all phosphorescent device and/or material system that may be fabricated at reduced cost. The reduced power consumption can facilitate wireless and solar charging.

Low power consumption OLED display

Disclosed is a device that includes an emissive material or region including a host that is doped with a first material as an emitter that is an acceptor and a phosphorescent-capable second material as a sensitizer. The first material and the second material each has a first singlet state and a first triplet state. The first triplet state of the second material is not lower than the first triplet state of the first material. The second material transfers excitons to the first material and the excitons that transition to the first triplet state of the first material can be activated to the first singlet state of the first material through a thermal activation process.

A region of a device is provided that includes a first material and a second material. The first and second materials may be co-dopants of an emissive material or region. The first material may have an energy gap of not more than about 100 meV between the first excited singlet state and the first excited triplet state. Excitons that transition to the Tstate can be activated to the Sstate due to the relatively small energy gap. This thermal activation process is fast enough that non-radiative decay from the Tstate to the Sstate is minimal or negligible, thus allowing for sensitization up to and including 100%. The second material may be a phosphorescent-capable material, and may act as a sensitizer to the first material.

Organic light emitting device

Emissive layer structures for organic emissive devices and emissive devices containing such structures are provided. The emissive layer includes one or more sub-layers or similar regions. A fluorescent emitter and two compounds that may form an exciplex are distributed within the sub-layers so as to enhance Forster transitions from the exciplex to the fluorescent acceptor and suppress undesirable Dexter transitions from the exciplex to the fluorescent acceptor.

Exciplex-sensitized fluorescence light emitting system

OLED-based devices that include at least two colors of emissive regions are provided, in which one region is optically coupled to a microcavity and the other is not. Devices including pixels in which only a portion of sub-pixels within the pixel are coupled to a microcavity are provided.

High resolution low power consumption OLED display with extended lifetime

A device that may be used as a multi-color pixel is provided. The device has a first organic light emitting device, a second organic light emitting device, a third organic light emitting device, and a fourth organic light emitting device. The device may be a pixel of a display having four sub-pixels. The first device may emit red light, the second device may emit green light, the third device may emit light blue light and the fourth device may emit deep blue light.
