The described invention provides an ex vivo dynamic multiple myeloma cancer niche contained in a pumpless perfusion culture device. The dynamic multiple myeloma cancer niche includes (a) a three-dimensional tissue construct containing a dynamic ex vivo bone marrow niche, which contains a mineralized bone-like tissue containing viable osteoblasts self-organized into cohesive multiple cell layers and an extracellular matrix secreted by the viable adherent osteoblasts; and a microenvironment dynamically perfused by nutrients and dissolved gas molecules; and (b) human myeloma cells seeded from a biospecimen composition comprising mononuclear cells and the multiple myeloma cells. The human myeloma cells are in contact with osteoblasts of the bone marrow niche, and the viability of the human myeloma cells is maintained by the multiple myeloma cancer niche.

Pumpless platform for high-throughput dynamic multicellular culture and chemosensitivity evaluation

A sensing system includes a sensor including a flexible substrate and a graphene oxide sensing element deposited on the flexible substrate. The graphene oxide sensing element has first and second sides. First and second electrical connectors coupled to the first and second sides of the graphene oxide sensing element, respectively. A power source is coupled to the first and second electrical connectors of the sensor and is adapted to apply a constant voltage to the sensor. The sensing system also includes a measurement element measuring a current in the graphene oxide sensing element due to the constant voltage and a calculation element calculating an electrical resistance of the graphene oxide sensing element based on the electrical current and the constant voltage and calculating a condition at a location of the sensor based on a relationship between the electrical resistance and the condition for the graphene oxide sensing element.

Wearable graphene sensors

The described invention provides an ex vivo dynamic multiple myeloma (MM) cancer niche contained in a microfluidic device. Ex vivo human multiple myeloma cancer niche and its use as a model for personalized treatment of multiple myeloma

A bed of microbeads is used as a foundation for reconstructing a three-dimensional osteocyte network by culturing osteocytes within the bed. The osteocytes are cultured such that they form a network among the microbeads that is capable of simulating the osteocyte network of natural bone. The osteocytes are cultured in a microfluidic device adapted for the purpose.

Granules of graphene oxide may be produced from a dispersion of nanoscale graphene oxide sheets by a spray drying method. Such granules have a three-dimensional corrugated morphology. The complexity of the corrugations, and the size distribution of the granules can be varied through selection of the spray-drying equipment used, and variation of the composition of the dispersion and the spray-drying parameters. Structural modifiers may be included in the graphene oxide dispersion to control the ultimate morphology of the granules. The granules of graphene oxide may be thermally reduced at a moderate temperature of 220&#xb0; C. to increase the granules' electrical conductivity. The reduced granules may be used to fabricate electrodes for supercapacitors. The power and energy density of such an electrode material is comparable to those of conventional/commercial activated carbon-based electrodes.

A method of forming a very small, i.e. microliter, finely detailed explosive train for the ignition of energetic munitions&#x2014;which train is formed by ink jetting picoliter volume droplets of an explosive ink onto the substrate; which explosive ink is a pure liquid that will not clog the ink jet printer. The explosive ink being a solution composed of a secondary organic explosive solute, a polymeric binder solute, and a polar aprotic organic solvent. Where the ink jet printer is a commercial piezoelectric type, drop-on-demand, ink jet printer capable of precisely delivering the subject picoliter volume droplets. And, which printer is capable of heating said substrate to an elevated temperature to more rapidly evaporate the solvent, leaving the desired, finely detailed, efficacious, crystalline explosive train.

Ink jet printing and patterning of explosive materials

An environmental sensor comprises a graphene thin-film as an environmentally responsive material. Such graphene films exhibit negative temperature coefficients (NTC), resulting in rapid decreases in electrical resistance as temperature increases, as well as a much faster response time than any other NTC material reported in the literature. The graphene film is also mechanically stable under bending, and, therefore, can be adapted for use in a mechanical sensor or pressure sensor, because the electrical resistance of the graphene film changes upon deflection and/or changes in pressure. The electrical resistance of the graphene film also increases in response to increases in environmental humidity. The electrical resistance changes of the graphene film can also be used as a sensing mechanism for changes in chemical and biological parameters in the environment of the sensor.

Graphene-based films in sensor applications

An electrical component includes an inkjet-printed graphene electrode. Graphene oxide flakes are deposited on a substrate in a graphene oxide ink using an inkjet printer. The deposited graphene oxide is thermally reduced to graphene. The electrical properties of the electrode are comparable to those of electrodes made using activated carbon, carbon nanotubes or graphene made by other methods. The electrical properties of the graphene electrodes may be tailored by adding nanoparticles of other materials to the ink to serve as conductivity enhancers, spacers, or to confer pseudocapacitance. Inkjet-printing can be used to make graphene electrodes of a desired thickness in preselected patterns. Inkjet printing can be used to make highly-transparent graphene electrodes. Inkjet-printed graphene electrodes may be used to fabricate double-layer capacitors that store energy by nanoscale charge separation at the electrode-electrolyte interface (i.e., 'supercapacitors').
