Disclosed is a liquid crystal display comprising: a first substrate and a second substrate, the first substrate being disposed opposite the second substrate and being disposed a first distance apart, each of the substrates having an inner surface and an outer surface opposite the inner surface; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the inner surfaces of the substrates, the liquid crystal layer including a plurality of liquid crystal molecules; a first electrode formed on the inner surface of the first substrate, the first electrode having a first width; and a second electrode formed on the inner surface of the first substrate, the second electrode having a second width, and spaced apart from the first electrode by a second distance, the first electrode and the second electrode being capable of aligning the liquid crystal molecules using an electric field produced between the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein the first distance is greater in length than the second distance, and the first and second electrodes each has a width to such a degree that the liquid crystal molecules above the first and second electrodes are substantially aligned by the electric field.

Liquid crystal display and fabrication method

A color filter layer covering both a thin film transistor and a pixel electrode which are formed on a lower substrate. A portion of the color filter layer positioned on the thin film transistor serves a protection layer of the thin film transistor and the other portion of the color filter layer serves a conventional color filter layer which were conventionally formed on an upper substrate opposite to the lower substrate. Therefore, the process number for the LCD is decreased and thus the manufacturing cost of the LCD is reduced.

Thin film transistor liquid crystal display and method for manufacturing the same

An IPS mode TFT-LCD and method for fabricating the same are disclosed. The IPS mode TFT-LCD includes a gate electrode interconnection; a pixel electrode formed on the same layer with the gate electrode interconnection; a first common electrode formed on the same layer with the gate electrode interconnection; a gate insulating layer formed on a substrate and covering each electrode; a data electrode formed on the upper of the gate insulating layer perpendicularly to the first common electrode; and a second common electrode which is formed on the same layer with the data electrode, parallel thereto and simultaneously in contact with the pixel electrode and the first common electrode.

IPS mode TFT-LCD and method for fabricating the same

A liquid crystal display having a lower substrate, a data line bended and formed on the lower substrate, a counter electrode bended in the same direction as the data line and formed on the lower substrate, and a pixel electrode bended in the same direction as the data line and formed on the lower substrate. The pixel electrode has a bar for bisecting a space defined by the counter electrode. The counter electrode is a rectangular frame. Accordingly, an aperture ratio of the liquid crystal display is increased while multidomain is formed between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode.
