The data driver is configured to output data voltages to the display panel. The driving controller is configured to control the data driver. The driving controller is configured to calculate differences between loads of a previous frame and loads of a present frame for the display blocks for each colors, to determine whether an image is a static image or not based on the differences between the loads of the previous frame and the loads of the present frame for the display blocks for the each colors, and to reduce luminance of the image when the image is determined as the static image.

A display device includes a display panel and a driving circuit that receives an input image signal and provides an output image signal corresponding to the input image signal to the display panel. The driving circuit includes an edge and slope detector that detects an edge of the input image signal, and determines an angle between the edge and a virtual line parallel to a first direction, a weight calculator that determines a weight, based on the edge and the angle, and a rendering module that compensates for the input image signal, based on the weight, and outputs the output image signal.
