Disclosed is an electronic device. The electronic device includes a sensor unit that includes a first sensor and a second sensor, and a processor that is operatively connected with the sensor unit. The processor determines whether a given condition is satisfied, by using a first sensor signal of a user sensed by the first sensor, controls the first sensor to sense the first sensor signal every first cycle and controls the second sensor to sense a second sensor signal from the user every second cycle longer than the first cycle when the given condition is not satisfied, controls the second sensor to sense the second sensor signal every third cycle shorter than the second cycle when the given condition is satisfied, and recognize a gesture of the user by using the first sensor signal sensed every first cycle and the second sensor signal sensed every third cycle.

Aspects of the disclosure include an electronic device comprising: a sensor device including at least one biometric sensor; memory storing a table of a plurality of gestures, wherein for each gesture, a corresponding plurality of features are stored in the memory; and at least one processor operatively connected to the sensor device and the memory, wherein the at least one processor is configured to: obtain a bio-signal of a user from the at least one biometric sensor; select a section of the bio-signal that includes one feature of the corresponding plurality of features for the plurality of gestures; determine a specific one of the plurality of gestures based on the one feature included in the section of the bio-signal and the corresponding plurality features for the plurality of gestures.

An electronic apparatus for performing a user authentication is provided. The electronic apparatus includes an input and at least one processor configured to perform a user authentication based on user authentication information input through the input and user authentication information pre-stored in the electronic apparatus while the electronic apparatus is in a lock state, switch the electronic apparatus to be in a lock release state when the user authentication is successful, and enhance security for use of the electronic apparatus in the lock release state when the user authentication is successful based on the user authentication information input after a user authentication failure occurs from the input of the user authentication information input a predetermined number of times or more.
