A secondary battery includes: an electrode assembly; a case accommodating the electrode assembly; and a cap assembly coupled to a top portion of the case. The cap assembly includes a safety vent and a cap-up. The cap-up has grooves on a surface thereof. The safety vent includes a downwardly protruding portion, is under the cap-up, and is electrically connected to the electrode assembly at the protruding portion.

Secondary battery

A secondary battery includes: a cylindrical can including a first region, a second region, and a first bent portion extending between the first region and the second region on a circumferential surface of the can; an electrode assembly accommodated in the can; and a cap assembly at a top end of the can and sealing the can. The first bent portion is bent such that an angle between the first region and the second region is in a range of about 90&#xb0; to about 100&#xb0;; the first region of the can partially covers a top surface of the cap assembly facing an exterior side of the can, and the second region of the can surrounds side surfaces of the cap assembly.

A cap assembly includes a current interrupt portion; a cap-up electrically connected with the current interrupt portion; and a gasket fixing the current interrupt portion and the cap-up, wherein the current interrupt portion comprises a vent portion comprising a safety vent configured to fracture when a predetermined pressure is applied thereon, and a cap-down comprising at least one hole configured to allow gas to flow in a direction toward the cap-up; and wherein an overall area of the at least one hole is about 0.12% to about 1.61% of a cross-sectional area of the gasket based on an outer diameter of the gasket.
