The present invention relates to a method of driving a plasma display panel and a plasma display apparatus employing the same. In the plasma display apparatus, a plurality of scan electrodes formed in a plasma display panel are divided into first and second groups and then supplied with scan signals. When a scan bias voltage supplied in a first subfield of first and second subfields is higher than that supplied in a second subfield of the first and second subfields, a lowest voltage of a reset signal supplied in the second subfield is higher than that supplied in the first subfield. In accordance with the plasma display apparatus of the present invention, the lowest voltage of the reset signal is controlled according to the scan bias voltage in dividing the plurality of scan electrodes into two or more groups and driving them. Accordingly, an address erroneous discharge due to the loss of wall charges can be reduced, the occurrence of spots can be prevented and therefore the image quality of a display image can be improved.

Method of driving plasma display panel and plasma display apparatus employing the same

Provided is a plasma display apparatus having a plasma display panel constituted of a plurality of discharge cells, and a driver for driving the panel. The apparatus includes a scan IC (integrated circuit) having a first switch turning on to apply a first signal to the panel, and a second switch turning on to apply a second signal to the panel, wherein, when the first signal applied to the panel changes into the second signal, the first and second switches are floated between an application period of the first signal and an application period of the second signal.

The present invention relates to a plasma display apparatus, and more particularly, to a driving method thereof. The plasma display apparatus includes a panel comprised of a first substrate and a second substrate bonded to each other, a first electrode and a second electrode formed on the upper substrate, and a sustain driver for applying sustain pulses to the first and second electrodes, wherein the sustain driver applies a sustain voltage between the first and second electrodes, and floats at least one of the first and second electrodes after the completion of a sustain discharge caused by the sustain voltage. In the plasma display apparatus and the driving method thereof, according to the present invention, at least one of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode is floated for a predetermined time after the completion of the sustain discharge. This floating state prevents wall charges that are generated during the sustain discharge from being accumulated and increases a discharge path of a plasma display apparatus using a space voltage, thereby improving afterimage characteristic and enhancing brightness and discharge efficiency.

Plasma display apparatus and driving method thereof

A plasma display apparatus comprises a plasma display panel and a driver. The plasma display panel comprises a first electrode, a second electrode, and a third electrode crossing the first electrode and the second electrode. During a first frame, the driver alternately supplies a sustain signal to the first electrode and the second electrode and supplies a constant voltage to the third electrode. During a second frame having a smaller APL of the first frame, the driver alternately supplies a sustain signal to the first electrode and the second electrode and supplies an auxiliary signal to the third electrode so as to correspond to at least one sustain signal of the sustain signals supplied to the first electrode and the second electrode.

The present invention relates to a plasma display apparatus, and more particularly, to a plasma display apparatus and driving method thereof, wherein a sustain waveform can be improved. According to the present invention, the plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel comprising a plurality of sustain electrode pairs wherein each of the sustain electrode pairs has a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, and a sustain waveform controller for controlling a rising time or a falling time of sustain waveforms supplied to at least one of the sustain electrode pairs according to a temperature of the plasma display panel. The sustain waveform controller controls a time corresponding to a time point at which a sustain discharge is generated, of the rising time and the falling time. The present invention improves a plasma display apparatus and driving method thereof. Accordingly, there is an effect in that erroneous discharge depending on a temperature of a plasma display panel can be prevented.

A method of driving a plasma display device having a plurality of scan electrode lines divided into the m (m is an integer greater than 2) number of groups, includes: applying p (p is a natural number greater than 1) number of first reset pulse having a first voltage to the scan electrode lines included in more than one group among the m number of groups during a specific frame; and simultaneously applying q (q is a natural number greater than 1) number of second reset pulse having a second voltage different from the first voltage to the second electrode line included in the rest groups except for the more than one group during the specific frame.

Method of driving plasma display panel

A plasma display apparatus and a method of driving the same are disclosed. According to the plasma display apparatus and the method of driving the same, when a plasma display panel (PDP) displays a screen with one frame comprised of a plurality of sub-fields including reset periods, different reset pulses are supplied to a first scan electrode and a second scan electrode in the reset period of an arbitrary sub-field among the plurality of sub-fields.

A method of driving a plasma display panel for generating a stable sustain discharge is disclosed. In the method, first sustaining pulses are applied to the scan electrodes such that a sustain discharge can be generated. Second sustaining pulse are applied to the sustain electrodes in such a manner to be alternated with the first sustaining pulses. A stabilization pulse is applied to an address electrode provided alternately with the scan electrode for each discharge cell such that said sustain discharge can be generated via a surface-discharge area of a voltage close curve.
