An array substrate for a liquid crystal display (LCD) device includes a substrate having a display region and a non-display region at periphery portions of the display region, the non-display region including first, second, third and fourth regions; a plurality of gate lines parallel to the second and fourth regions, the plurality of gate lines including a first gate line closest to the second region and a second gate line closest to the fourth region; a plurality of data lines parallel to the first and third regions and crossing the plurality of gate lines to define a plurality of pixel regions in the display region, the plurality of data lines including a first data line closest to the first region; and a light-shielding portion corresponding to the non-display region and disposed at the same layer as at least one of the gate line and the data line, the light-shielding portion including first, second, third and fourth portions corresponding to the first, second, third and fourth regions, respectively.

A method of fabricating a liquid crystal display device, including: forming alignment layers over a first substrate and a second substrate, wherein the first and second substrates have a first region and a second region, the first and second regions each including a panel region, wherein a panel region in the first region has a different driving mode than a panel in the second region; producing a first alignment direction in the alignment layers of the first region; producing a second alignment direction in the alignment layers of the second region; assembling the first and second substrates together; and dividing the assembled substrates into liquid crystal display panels.

Method of fabricating liquid crystal display devices having various driving modes on a common substrate

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device including an array substrate, a color filter substrate and a liquid crystal layer therebetween. The array substrate having a display region and non-display regions includes a plurality of gate lines transversely arranged in the display region; a plurality of data lines arranged perpendicular to the plurality of gate lines in the display region; a plurality of pixel electrodes, each pixel electrode disposed in a pixel region defined by each pair of gate lines and data lines; and a plurality of thin film transistors in crossover points of the plurality of gate lines and data lines, each thin film transistor connected to each pixel electrode. The color filter substrate disposed opposite to and spaced apart from the array substrate includes a plurality of color filters, each color filter corresponding each, pixel electrode; and a black matrix layer covering the periphery of the display region of the array substrate and corresponding the non-display regions of the array substrate, wherein the black matrix layer extends over the pixel electrodes that are disposed in peripheral portions of the display regions.

A method of forming a liquid crystal cell for a liquid crystal display device includes defining a first cell region, second cell regions having smaller sizes than the first cell region, and a buffer region disposed between adjacent second cell regions on a first base substrate. After the regions are defined, elements are formed in the first and second cell regions and a buffer pattern is formed in the buffer region. An alignment layer is formed to cover the elements and the buffer pattern. The alignment layer is then rubbed along a direction from the second cell regions to the first cell region.

The liquid crystal display (LCD) includes a gate line formed on a transparent substrate and a data line crossing the gate line. An insulating layer electrically insulates the data line from the gate line. A thin film transistor is formed at an intersection of the gate line and the data line, and is connected to the gate line and the data line. The present invention discloses a liquid crystal display device, including upper and lower substrates with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween; a sealant between the upper and lower substrates; a plurality of source and gate pads on the lower substrate; a plurality of gate and data lines on the lower substrate, each gate line being electrically connected with the corresponding gate pad, each data line being electrically connected with the corresponding source pad; a gate insulating layer between the gate lines and the data lines; a source PCB electrically connected with the plurality of source pads; a gate PCB electrically connected with the plurality of gate pads; and a plurality of transmitting wires on the lower substrate, the transmitting wires being electrically connected with the gate and source pads across the sealant such that the source PCB is electrically connected with the gate PCB. The liquid crystal display device further includes a repair wire to repair the gate transmitting wires, and dummy patterns to protect the gate transmitting wires from a mechanical damage of a scribing and breaking force.

An array substrate of a liquid crystal display panel includes a substrate; a thin film transistor on the substrate; a pixel electrode having a plurality of first tips, the first tips being formed at at least one edge of the pixel electrode; and a common electrode having a plurality of second tips, the second tips being formed at at least one edge of the pixel electrode and the common electrode being parallel with the pixel electrodes.

An array substrate for use in an IPS-LCD device includes a gate electrode, a gate line, a common line, and a plurality of common electrodes that have zigzag shapes on a substrate. A gate insulation layer is formed over an entire surface of tha substrate, and an active layer and ohmic contact layers are formed in series on the gate insulation layer and over the gate electrode. Over the gate electrode and on the ohmic contact layers, source and drain electrodes are formed. At this time, a data line is formed on the gate insulation layer. A passivation layer covers an entire surface of the substrate and has a drain contact hole that expose a portion of the drain contact hole. On the passivation layer, a plurality of pixel electrodes are formed in substantially zigzag or bent shapes. These pixel electrodes correspond to the common electrodes and are spaced apart from each other. The common and pixel electrodes have a plurality of bend portions and each bend portion has an inner part that is filled with a conductive material. Since this bend portion controls a rotational direction of liquid crystal molecules, the IPS-LCD device of the present invention has a wide viewing angle and prevents the color-shift and the brightness deterioration.
