Liquid crystal display

The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display, which comprises: a lower substrate having a reflective electrode; a lower alignment film formed on the lower substrate; an upper substrate having a color filter and disposed opposite to the lower substrate; an upper alignment film formed on the upper substrate; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the lower and upper substrates; a phase compensation film adhered on the outer surface of the upper substrate and serving to convert linearly polarized light into circularly polarized light; and a polarizer adhered on the phase compensation film and serving to convert natural light into linearly polarized light. The lower alignment film has an alignment angle of &#x2212;10 to 20&#xb0; with respect to a horizontal line, the upper alignment film has an alignment angle of 40 to 55&#xb0; with respect to a horizontal line, the liquid crystal layer has a phase delay value (d&#x394;n) of 0.24-0.27 &#x3bc;m, the phase compensation film has a phase compensation function of &#x3bb;/4 and also has an optical axis making 140-146&#xb0; with a horizontal line, and the polarizer has a absorption axis making 120 to 122.5&#xb0; with a horizontal line. According to the present invention, the design of a liquid crystal cell can be optimized to provide a liquid crystal display having excellent display characteristics. Furthermore, cell gap can be increased to improve process margin.

The invention discloses a liquid crystal display capable of preventing color shift and also improving response time characteristics. The liquid crystal display comprises: an upper substrate and a lower substrate opposed to each other with a selected distance; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the upper and the lower substrate, and having a plurality of liquid crystal molecules; a pixel electrode formed at an inner surface of the lower substrate, wherein a display signal is applied to the pixel electrode; and a counter electrode formed an inner surface of the upper substrate and forming an electric field together with the pixel electrode by applying a common signal, thereby driving the liquid crystal molecules; wherein a voltage difference is occurred between the counter and the pixel electrodes, there are simultaneously formed an electric field disposed vertical to substrate surface and an oblique electric field disposed oblique to substrate surface between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode.

Disclosed is a reflective liquid crystal display having high transmittance and a method for manufacturing the same. The method comprises the steps of: forming a gate bus line and a common signal line by depositing a metal layer on a lower substrate and by patterning a selected portion of the metal layer; forming a gate insulating layer on the lower substrate in which the gate bus line is formed; forming a channel layer on a selected portion of the gate insulating layer having the gate bus line; forming a source electrode overlapped with one side of the channel layer, a drain electrode overlapped with the other side of the channel layer, and a data bus line being contacted to the source electrode and crossed with the gate bus line, by depositing a metal layer on the gate insulating layer in which the channel layer is formed, and by patterning a selected portion of the metal layer; forming an intermetal insulating layer having a uniform topology on a surface of the gate insulating layer; etching selected portions of the intermetal insulating layer and the gate insulating layer so as to expose selected portions of the common signal line and the drain electrode; and forming a counter electrode contacted with the common signal line and a pixel electrode contacted with the drain electrode by depositing a transparent metal layer on the intermetal insulating layer and by patterning a selected portion of the transparent metal layer. Reflective LCD having high transmittance and method for manufacturing the same

Disclosed is a reflective liquid crystal display having high transmittance and a method for manufacturing the same. The method comprises the steps of: forming a gate bus line and a common signal line by depositing a metal layer on a lower substrate and by patterning a selected portion of the metal layer; forming a gate insulating layer on the lower substrate in which the gate bus line is formed; forming a channel layer on a selected portion of the gate insulating layer having the gate bus line; forming a source electrode overlapped with one side of the channel layer, a drain electrode overlapped with the other side of the channel layer, and a data bus line being contacted to the source electrode and crossed with the gate bus line, by depositing a metal layer on the gate insulating layer in which the channel layer is formed, and by patterning a selected portion of the metal layer; forming an intermetal insulating layer having a uniform topology on a surface of the gate insulating layer; etching selected portions of the intermetal insulating layer and the gate insulating layer so as to expose selected portions of the common signal line and the drain electrode; and forming a counter electrode contacted with the common signal line and a pixel electrode contacted with the drain electrode by depositing a transparent metal layer on the intermetal insulating layer and by patterning a selected portion of the transparent metal layer.
