A method for processing data in an Ethernet protocol stack is disclosed. The method includes receiving client data for transmission via an Ethernet bus, and selectively transmitting the client data over the Ethernet bus by one of packet switching or non-packet-switching transmission based on an identity of the originating client device.

Processing data in an Ethernet protocol stack

In one embodiment, the network node receives a packet traffic aggregated from one or more concurrent application streams in a packet switched network. A number of the one or more concurrent application streams is estimated as a granularity of the packet traffic. A drop probability Pis calculated based on the estimated granularity and the current traffic load of the network node. The calculated drop probability Pis provided for a congestion control.

Method of managing a traffic load

The invention concerns a method of routing a packet in a packet switching network, and a corresponding router (). A new or an obsolete entry in a routing table is detected. A timer is started. A packet filter is configured having a pass probability which is an increasing or decreasing function of the timer whereby said function is increasing if the detected entry is a new entry and decreasing if the detected entry is an obsolete entry. An incoming packet which matches the detected entry is detected. The detected packet is filtered with the packet filter. If the detected packet passes the packet filter, the detected packet is routed in accordance with the detected entry. If the detected packet does not pass the packet filter, the detected packet is routed in accordance with another entry of the routing table.

Method of routing a packet

The invention relates to a method for transmitting one or more client signals via a packet transport network. According to the method, packets of the one or more client signals are received at an ingress node of the network. Timing information characterizing the timing of the received packets is determined and the received packets are mapped into a container. The container and the timing information are transmitted via the network. At an egress node of the network, the packets are extracted from the container and the packets are timed for further transmission based on the transmitted timing information.
