In a process for the continuous production of longitudinally seam-welded and corrugated metal tubes ( ), a metal band drawn off from a supply reel is formed into an open-seam tube, welded at its longitudinal edges, and the welded smooth tube ( ) corrugated. A withdrawal apparatus driven by an electric motor engages the smooth tube. The smooth tube ( ) is corrugated by means of a corrugation plate ( ) located in a corrugation head ( ) which can be driven rotationally. The corrugation head ( ) is driven directly by a hollow shaft motor ( ).

Process for the continuous production of longitudinally seam-welded and corrugated metal tubes

A device (24) is provided for the electromagnetic braking and clutching of at least one storage spool (7). Each storage spool is located on a hollow shaft (5) and can rotate around its longitudinal axis (25). Each storage spool permits strand-shaped materials to be drawn therefrom and strand-shaped materials to be wound thereon when the storage spool (7) is driveably connected to the hollow shaft (5). The electromagnetic braking and clutching device includes a star-shaped support unit (31) that is securely affixed to the hollow shaft (5) and has a number of radially extending holding devices (37) distributed around its periphery. The support unit (31) holds at least one electrically excitable magnet coil (45) radially by using of a holding device (37), at a distance from the hollow shaft (5). The device is particularly suited for braking and clutching storage spools (7) with large outside diameters, which are located on a hollow shaft (5).

A method is indicated for igniting a welding arc between a fixed electrode and a metal workpiece to be welded, whereby a covering protective gas is supplied by a nozzle that extends into the welding area. Before a welding power source is switched on for the welding arc, an auxiliary arc supplied by an auxiliary power source is ignited, which ignites the welding arc after the welding power source is switched on. To better ionize the welding area and ensure the ignition of the auxiliary welding arc, a high-frequency electric arc is produced in the welding area between the nozzle and the workpiece by means of a pulse generator which produces high-frequency high-voltage pulses.

Method of igniting a welding arc

An electromagnetic oscillating system is disclosed and includes an electromagnet with at least two poles. Each of the poles carry at least one electric excitation winding for connection to an alternating electric field. A rotor is disposed between the poles and includes a shaft that is rotatably disposed within the bore of the electromagnetic windings. The shaft is hollow and has a torsional spring disposed therein. One end of the torsional spring is rigidly attached within the shaft, while the other end extends from the shaft and is rigidly fixed to a stationary point.

Oscillating system

A method is indicated for producing lengthwise waterproof cables, with a jacket that is formed around the transmitting elements containing the core. The voids in the core and between the core and the jacket are filled with a viscous sealing material, which is pumped from a storage container by a feed pump driven by a speed-controlled electric motor, and supplied to a pressure chamber. The core is passed through the pressure chamber so that the voids in the core are filled with the viscous sealing material. The pressure in the pressure chamber is continuously measured and is kept constant with a regulator. Sealing material leaving the pressure chamber is directed to a catch-container equipped with a level switch. From there it is supplied to the pressure chamber by a feedback pump driven by a speed-controlled electric motor, which is switched on and off by the level switch. Like the speed of the electric motor driving the feed pump, the speed of the electric motor driving the feedback pump is controlled by the regulator.

Method for producing lengthwise waterproof cables

A welding speed-dependent voltage (11) is added to a variable fixed voltage (13), to control the welding current as a function of welding speed in DC arc welding equipment, for the continuous welding of longitudinal seams of tube-shaped metal bands. In addition, the sum (15) of speed-dependent voltage (11) and variable fixed voltage (13) is superimposed by a pulsed DC voltage by a summing amplifier (28).

In a process for the continuous production of helical or annular corrugated, thin-walled, in particular longitudinally welded metal tubes, in which a freely rotating roller ring in a turntable corrugation head, which is eccentric with respect to the smooth metal tube, rolls against the smooth surface of the metal tube to produce the corrugation, and the metal tube is transported by a traction device that grips the smooth and/or corrugated metal tube, the force acting on the roller ring is constantly measured, and the rotation speed of the head is controlled as a function of the measured force.

A cable stranding apparatus is described as having a plurality of stranding rotor units that are interchangeably coupled, in a locked manner, to a single rotor drive assembly of such apparatus. Each stranding rotor unit is designed to accommodate the dimensions of particular cable elements to be stranded. For this purpose, the stranding rotor unit for cable elements of a large cross-section has a plurality of large collets for accommodating the drawing of such large cable elements through the unit; while the cable stranding rotor unit for cable elements of a small cross-section has a plurality of smaller collets for drawing the smaller cable elements through such unit.

There is disclosed a method for the continuous marking of electric strands with which annular markings, which are limited in axial direction, are applied to the surface of the strands by means of color jets. The color jets emerge under pressure from at least one nozzle which is driven by an electrical oscillation system, the frequency of which is controlled proportionally to a rate of withdrawal of the strands. For an easy changing of the axial distance between the markings, square pulses are fed to the oscillation system from a converter which converts electrical d.c. voltage into a square waveform signal at a specific frequency. The square waveform drives the oscillation system at the specific frequency. As a desired value, the converter is fed a d.c. voltage which is proportional to the rate of withdrawal of the strand.

Method for the continuous marking of elongated material

In combination with a spool upon which elongated stock such as ribbon, wire, thread etc. is to be wound and from which the elongated stock is to be unwound; an electromagnet with cooperating armature and a yoke; the device is to be selectively used as a brake and as a clutch. This is accomplished by a permanent air gap from 0.1 to 1.5 mm between the yoke and the armature to remain effective in the energized state. On application of a relatively high voltage to the electromagnet positive coupling obtains between the electromagnet and the armature and, therefore between a shaft connected to the electromagnet and the armature as thereafter being connected to the spool; for positive common rotation of these parts. Upon application of a lower voltage to the electromagnet, a brake force becomes effective between the electromagnet on one hand, plus armature and the spool subassembly on the other hand.

An apparatus for color coding and dyeing or otherwise marking a light wave conductor optical fiber includes a dyeing stage and a drying stage; the conductor is unreeled from a spool for passing through the stages, the marked conductor is taken up by another spool or the like, and a downstream drive is coupled to the conductor for moving it at a particular speed through the dyeing and drying stages. An upstream drive mechanism is also coupled to the conductor upstream from the dyeing stage for pulling the same from the supply spool, and includes a drive controlled towards the same speed as the downstream drive and a compensating roller to ensure sufficient tension in the conductor so that the upstream and downstream speeds are similar.

A viscous sealing material is applied to a communications cable by being forced out of a container by means of a heatable pressure plate having a bore and a pump adjacent to the bore; the sealing material is conveyed by the pump through a conduit to a chamber, in which the sealing material is introduced under pressure into and around an already stranded cable core; the pressure plate includes a plurality of preferably helically coil electrical heating elements separated from each other and projecting therefrom for penetrating into the sealing material in the container when the pressure plate applies pressure to the sealing material so that it is progressively liquified and can be pumped out of the container.
