An optical converter for producing colored or white light from blue excitation light is provided. The converter has good scattering properties to be able to produce nearly white light from the scattered blue light components and the scattered, converted yellow light components. The optical converter includes material including one or more of a YAG ceramic, a LuAG ceramic, and a magnesium-aluminum ceramic exhibiting strong scattering.

Further, the composition complies with the following relations and conditions: (LiO+AlO)/(NaO+KO) greater than 2; LiO/(LiO+NaO+KO) greater than 0.47 and less than 0.70; CaO+FeO+ZnO+PO+BO+CeOgreater that 0.8 and less than 3, where at least four out of the six oxides are included. The glass exhibits a modulus of elasticity of at least 82 GPa and has a glass transition point below 540&#xb0; C. and/or a working point below 1150&#xb0; C.

The invention relates to a glass ceramic armour material consisting (in % by weight in relation to oxide base) of 5-33 SiO, 20-50 AlO, 5-40 MgO, 0-15 BO, 0.1-30 YO, LnO, AsO, NbOand/or ScOand 0-10 PO. In order to meet the legal requirements regarding color of light from a headlight, especially at the light-dark boundary and how much scattered light can occur in the dark region, a lens () is provided, which has a diffractive structure on at least one of its surfaces (). This lens () is built into a headlight with a diaphragm () arranged between the lens () and a light source () so that the diffractive structure is arranged substantially only in a region of the lens surface that is not masked by the diaphragm. The optical elements are made from an opto-ceramic material that is characterized by high density, transparency for visible light and IR, high refractive index, high Abbe number and outstanding relative partial dispersion. Mixed oxides are sintered to obtain the opto-ceramic material. The mixed oxides contain zirconium oxide and hafnium oxide mixed with one or more oxides of yttrium, scandium, lanthanide elements, and optionally mixed with one or more of SiO, NaO, and TiO.
