A method is provided for controlling an internal combustion engine with a mechanically driven supercharger which can be switched on and off by means of a clutch and is arranged in a charge-air line. A bypass-air line with a bypass-air control element connects the intake and delivery sides of the supercharger. A throttle valve is situated upstream of the supercharger or downstream in the charge-air line. The clutch and/or the bypass-air control element are controlled with specifiable values for a degree of opening and/or a switching state of the clutch, and, in a specified part-load range of the internal combustion engine, the bypass-air control element closes the bypass-air line when the clutch is open.

Method and apparatus for controlling an internal combustion engine with a mechanically driven supercharger

In an arrangement and method for controlling a supercharged internal combustion engine having a charger arranged in the air intake duct and a catalytic converter arranged in the exhaust duct, with a secondary air duct including a control valve extending from a point of the intake duct downstream of the charger and upstream of a first throttle member to a point of the exhaust duct upstream of the catalytic converter, a second throttle member is arranged in the intake duct upstream of the charger and the throttle members and control valve are controlled by a control unit in such a way that sufficient air is supplied to the exhaust duct upstream of the catalytic converter such that, during engine warm-up, combustion takes place in the catalytic converter causing rapid heat-up of the catalytic converter.

The invention relates to a device for controlling the air flow of a supercharged internal combustion engine with a supercharger to deliver charge air from a suction line located upstream of the supercharger through a charge air line located downstream of the supercharger to the internal combustion engine. The suction line includes an intake and a recirculating line with a recirculating valve located between the charge air line and the suction line. The recirculating line between the recirculating valve and the suction line is formed by a line section that terminates in the suction line of the supercharger downstream of the intake. In order to achieve a significant reduction of induction noise, the length of the line section from the recirculating valve to the opening in the suction line is dimensioned as a function of a presettable pulsation frequency of the supercharger so that the line section, with the recirculating valve closed, forms a resonator that is tuned to one or more pulsation frequencies of the supercharger.

An internal combustion engine with spark ignition having an exhaust gas turbocharger. Supercharger air from the turbocharger is conveyed through a charger air line or pipe to an intake manifold of the internal combustion engine. A throttle valve is provided for the power control of the engine in a path of the supercharger air, especially at an inlet to the intake manifold. A bypass air line or pipe is connected to the charger air line or pipe, with the bypass air line extending to a position upstream of the turbocharger. A further throttle valve is arranged at the bypass air line with both throttle valves being mechanically connected with each other in such a manner that one throttle valve closes when the other throttle valve opens, and vice versa.
