A method for operating an automation field device comprises connecting a two-conductor line with an input terminal of the field device; setting a minimum electrical current value at the input terminal of the field device in an initializing phase; measuring a maximum voltage value at the input terminal in the initializing phase; ascertaining a minimum supplemental power supplied to the field device at the input terminal and which is available to the field device for performing at least one supplemental functionality; and activating/switching on a supplemental module by the processing unit when the ascertained minimum supplemental power is greater than or equal to an operating power needed for operating the supplemental module, wherein by the activating/switching on of the supplemental module a corresponding supplemental functionality is performed by the field device in measurement operation.

Method for operating an automation field device

An add-on module for a field device for measuring and/or monitoring at least one measurement variable, wherein a portion of the field device adjacent the process is exposed to process conditions at the site of use and a portion of the field device opposite the process is exposed to ambient conditions at the site of use includes: at least one receiving device into which one measuring module can be inserted, wherein each measuring module acquires by measurement at least one ambient parameter and/or at least one effect of the ambient conditions on the measuring module; and an evaluation unit connected to the measuring module and configured to, based on the ambient parameter and/or effects acquired by the measuring module, determine an instantaneous stress acting on the field device and/or a total stress to which the field device has been exposed thus far during the period of use thereof.

Add-on module for a field device

A compensating of the sensor module occurs with the implementing of the transfer function in the measuring circuit of the sensor module. The transfer function generates sensor measured values as a function of primary signal. In a later sensor calibration, sensor measured values provided on the sensor module interface are registered as a function of supplied pressure values and stored in a calibration database. In a later electronics module calibration, measured value signals provided on the signaling interface are registered as a function of sensor measured values supplied by means of a calibration signal source and stored in a calibration database, wherein the supplied sensor measured values correspond to the sensor measured values of the sensor calibration. Finally, there follows the calibration protocol creation, in which the measured value signals ascertained in the electronics module calibration are associated with the pressure values supplied in the sensor calibration.

Method for providing calibrated pressure transducers

A circuit for regulating and monitoring a signal current, comprising a regulating circuit; and a monitoring circuit. The regulating circuit comprises: a first controlled voltage source for outputting a target value dependent controlled voltage; a current adjust circuit for adjusting the signal current in dependence on the controlled voltage and a first feedback voltage by means of a potentiometer; and a first feedback path, with at least one first resistance element across which the signal current flows. The voltage drop across the resistance element or one of the voltages of the current adjust circuit dependent thereon is supplied as a first feedback voltage. The monitoring circuit comprises: a second controlled voltage source for outputting a second target value dependent controlled voltage; an analog monitoring circuit for determining the deviation between the second controlled voltage and a second feedback voltage; and a second feedback path with a resistance element across which the signal current flows, wherein the voltage drop across the resistance element or a voltage of the monitoring circuit dependent thereon is supplied as a second feedback voltage.

Circuit for regulating and monitoring a signal current and measurement transducer with such a circuit

A measurement transmitter, including: A microprocessor having a reset input and a clock output for providing a periodic clock signal; a monitoring circuit having a clock signal input and a reset output; and a current controller for issuing in a band range, during operation, a measurement signal current representing a measured value. The clock signal input is connected with the clock signal output and the reset input with the reset output. Upon absence of the clock signal, the reset output periodically issues a reset signal. The measurement transmitter further includes a comparator circuit having a first input, which is connected via a lowpass with the reset output of the monitoring circuit, and a second input, on which a reference voltage is applied. An output of the comparator circuit is connected with the current controller. After repeated output of the reset signal, the voltage at the first input of the comparator circuit moves above the reference voltage, so that a control signal is then present on the output of the comparator. The control signal causes the current controller to issue an error signal outside of the band range.
