The invention provides a method and apparatus for engine torque regulation in which, for rapid engine torque reduction, fuel injection is cut out using a cutout pattern that can be selected from a predetermined set of cutout patterns, as a function of the deviation of the engine torque. According to the invention, an engine-torque-reducing throttle position intervention is also implemented parallel to the fuel injection cutout. The difference in torque between a load-indicated actual engine torque (derived from an engine air volume measurement) and the required set engine torque can be regulated with an appropriate reduction of the degree of injection cutout in stages.

Method and apparatus for regulating engine torque

In a method for detecting leaks in a motor vehicle tank ventilation system which includes an adsorption filter connected to the tank, via a ventilation conduit, to the induction pipe of an internal combustion engine via a discharge conduit and to the atmosphere via an air supply conduit, a shut-off valve arranged in the air supply conduit is closed to isolate the system from the atmosphere, a regeneration valve arranged in the discharge conduit is then opened so as to generate in the system a predetermined vacuum up to a point of time at which a stable equilibrium state of the air/fuel ratio in the system is achieved, the regeneration valve is then closed to isolate the system also from the induction pipe, and the vacuum in the system is subsequently maintained over a predetermined period and the existence of a leak in the tank ventilation system is indicated if the vacuum in the system falls below a predetermined threshold value during the predetermined monitoring period.

Method for detecting leaks in a motor vehicle tank ventilation system

In a method of providing a desired output torque for an internal-combustion engine a desired air mass-flow value or a desired load value is determined from a desired output torque value in dependence on the engine speed and the throttle-valve opening angle, and the measured actual value is adjusted to the respective desired value by control of the throttle-valve opening angle. A conversion between load and air mass flow takes place by means of a load filter which compensates for the deviations, occurring in dynamic operating states, of the measured air mass flow from the air mass flow actually flowing into the combustion chamber of the engine and a transition between the two regulating methods can take place continuously or in a switched manner.

Method of controlling engine output torque

A method and apparatus control the power to be delivered by a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine which, during normal operation of the internal combustion engine, is adjusted by matching the fuel injection quantity to the induced air mass flow corresponding to the current load demand and controllable by a setting element. So that control of the internal combustion engine power to be delivered remains possible (emergency driving function) in the case of an impairment of the function of the setting element for controlling the induced air mass flow but, at the same time, so that a reduction in the volumetric efficiency of the internal combustion engine is not to be expected in normal operation, the internal combustion engine power is adjusted to the value corresponding to the current load demand during the period of the functional fault exclusively by interventions in the mixture composition and/or by interventions in the ignition and/or by controlled interruption of the fuel delivery to at least one cylinder (i.e. cylinder shut-down).

In a process for regulating the fuel/air ratio in internal combustion engines having an exhaust gas measuring probe and a catalyst, the fuel/air mixture fed to the internal combustion engine via a proportioning device being regulated to a virtually stoichiometric value in a control unit with variable characteristics as a function of the exhaust gas composition detected by the measuring probe, the characteristics of the control unit are variable in dependence on the operating time of the catalyst.

Process for regulating the fuel/air ratio in internal combustion engines

An internal combustion engine has a catalytic converter in its exhaust gas path. In the catalytic converter, two exhaust gas emission measuring probes are provided spatially separated from one another. The phase shift between the output signals of these two measuring probes is used as a measure of the aging of the catalytic converter.
