A rotary piston internal combustion engine includes two side parts and a casing cover part with a trochoidal shaped dual-arc casing inner surfacing of a fluid-cooled housing. An eccentric shaft passes axially through the housing. A triangular piston is journalled on an eccentric of the eccentric shaft with three corners of the piston gliding along the casing inner surfacing in a continuous sliding engagement. A belt drive connects the eccentric shaft with a refrigeration compressor of the same type of construction as the internal combustion engine. A fan wheel is arranged and joined by a universal coupling joint as to a telescopic part that is nonrotatable although axially shiftable relative to a mating telescopic part connected with an output shaft of the internal combustion engine connected by a first universal coupling joint and connected by a second universal coupling joint relative to the fan wheel. The telescopic parts include a polygon cross section for the inner part and an outer part which surrounds the inner part with a corresponding polygon-cylindrical inner shape slidable in the axial direction as is necessary to take up vibration impacts between the internal combustion engine fixed in a tubular frame and the fan wheel mounted in the housing frame. A shift between cooling operation and heating operation is made possible via a vaporization valve so that cooling medium circulation can be returned to the refrigeration compressor brought to a standstill when the circulation is switched to heating operation.

An external-axial rotary piston blower with two-arm or two-lobe pistons having cylindrical inner and outer advance surfaces and transitional surfaces between the advance surfaces, which extend from inner advance surfaces defining a partial circle or arc of 90.degree. into smooth, level or even inner transitional surfaces at right angles to the tangent to this partial circle or arc as far as to a curve or rounding-off, over which the pistons roll-off or move and from this rounding-off or curve into smooth, level or even outer transitional surfaces, which are inclined to the longitudinal axis of the piston at an angle of 120.degree., whereby the outer edges of the inner transitional surfaces of both of the two pistons then contact or engage, when these transitional surfaces are located or lie in a plane with the positioning of the pistons of 45.degree. to the longitudinal housing axis.

Rotary pistons on shafts connected therewith counter-rotate in a blower machine casing having casing inner cylindrical surfaces and having an inlet and an outlet in the region of intersections of these casing inner cylindrical surfaces, the cross section of the inlet is approximately 1.35 times the cross section of the outlet. The rotary pistons are formed by two coaxial semi-cylinders having different radii with a ratio of 2.5 to 2.8 relative to each other. Transition surfaces are formed between the semi-cylinder with the large radius and the semi-cylinder with the small radius. These transition surfaces dovetail with the corresponding transition surfaces of the other rotary piston and together with the associated casing inner cylindrical surfaces. The side plates and the cylindrical surfaces of the semi-cylinder with the small radius form working chambers having variable volume therewith. The cylindrical surface of the semi-cylinder with the large radius terminates in an angle of 15.degree. to 25.degree. before a base plane or surface thereof with an angle of 30.degree. to the axis of symmetry of the rotary piston in sides or flanks. The semi-cylinders with the large radius are made hollow and consist of light metal. The rotary pistons at the axial sides thereof have concentric disks which, with the peripheral surfaces thereof, operate with a close but contactless gap relationship in recesses in the walls of the side plates. The side of the semi-cylinder with the large radius upon the outer side thereof has recesses for balancing of the rotary pistons.

A gap seal formed between surfaces cooperating with each other such that operation free of engagement between the cooperating rotor and housing parts with respect to each other at relative speeds occurs subject to a roughened light-metal surface of one part cooperating with a covering of foamed synthetic material on the other part so as to assure gap seal therebetween rather than having any metal-to-metal and/or foamed-material to foamed-material interengagement. The foamed synthetic material covering of a surface preferably is made of polyurethane and the light-metal surface is made of aluminum roughened by sandblasting or etching. The lightweight metal part can have cavities and recess spaces therein to be filled with foamed material as well as other fins, ribs, and anchoring provision for holding the foamed synthetic material bodies in place. The applicability of the cooperating surfaces of lightweight metal parts and foamed synthetic material parts includes rotary piston engines having different configuration of lobes of rotating pistons as well as cooperating surfaces of a spiral compressor and also a screw compressor for delivery of working medium free of oil and bearing grease.

An external axial rotary piston blower for quarter-roller type of construction with transfer ports leading to the outlet in the casing runway surfacing or inner peripheral surface of the housing with length differing relative to each other and increasing cross section differing toward the outlet, the greatest length of which can be permitted to be dimensioned or measured only such that the transfer ports are first opened when the inlet is closed-off by the piston traversing the same.

An external axial rotary piston blower having a housing including a casing part and two side parts of which the casing part encompasses a cylindrical runway surfacing which is formed by two cylinders intersecting each other in a region of an inlet and an outlet and in which two identical pistons having at least one wing portion rotate among each other, such pistons having starting surfaces with a large radius running against a casing runway surfacing and respectively another piston having a starting surface with a small radius running correspondingly against a casing runway surfacing. Shafts of the pistons are offset or shifted in cold condition in a direction of a short housing axis toward the outlet and the housing on the side of the outlet is shorter in axial direction in cold condition than on the side of the inlet.
