An appliance comprising a firebox, a first air duct and a room air chimney. During operation of the appliance heated room air adjacent to a viewing pane or the screen and heated room air from the first air duct is received within the chimney. The heated air within the chimney rises toward an open upper end causing the chimney to draw additional room air from adjacent to the viewing pane or screen.

A flame simulating apparatus to simulate flames emanating from a wood or fossil fuel burning fire. The flame simulating apparatus includes a light source, a light reflecting element, and a fire simulation screen. The light reflecting element produces a moving and generally random pattern of reflected light when light is cast upon it by the light source. The fire simulation screen has the image of a fire thereon and is positioned so that reflected light from the light reflecting element is cast upon its rear surface. The fire simulation screen includes at least one portion that is at least partially translucent such that light cast upon the partially translucent portion by the light reflecting element is diffused and at least partially passes through the translucent portion to present a moving flame image when viewed from a position in front of the fire simulation screen.

An unvented fuel burning appliance that includes a firebox, a burner and a front door releasably securable to the firebox. The firebox has an open front and enclosed bottom, rear, side and top surfaces. The door has a central panel with a catalytic converter positioned on the upper portion of the central panel. Exhaust gases from the burner are directed through the catalytic converter prior to exiting the firebox such that the catalytic converter eliminates or reduces harmful or noxious gases and particulate material contained within the exhaust gases. Heat that is generated by the operation of the catalytic converter is substantially directed, by way of radiation and convection, outwardly through the front of the appliance to reduce heat generated and maintained at the top of the firebox and thereby reduce the heating of the top surface of the appliance.

Unvented fuel burning appliances and door therefore

A gas barbecue that has a housing having a generally rectangular shape with opposing side and end walls, an open interior, an open top, gas control means, a cooking grill, a primary burner assembly located below the cooking grill, and an upper radiant burner. The upper radiant burner is positioned above the cooking grill and includes a tube burner and a radiating means. The radiating means has a perforated mesh with the tube burner positioned beneath the perforated mesh such that heat generated by the tube burner passes through holes in the perforated mesh thereby heating the perforated mesh and causing the mesh to generate and direct infrared radiant heat into the open interior of the barbecue. The holes in the perforated mesh help to enhance the heating of the radiating means and assist in the radiation of infrared heat into the open interior of the barbecue.

Gas barbecue assembly

A gas barbecue having a rectangular body, gas control means, a cooking grill, and a burner assembly. The burner assembly includes an elongate tube burner and a generally L-shaped tube burner having a primary tube member and a secondary tube member intersecting the primary tube member thereby forming the general L shape. The free end of the secondary tube member is positioned in close proximity to the elongate tube burner such that the ignition of the elongate tube burner causes cross-ignition of the L-shaped tube burner when gas is supplied thereto.

A fireplace comprises a firebox which has a flue and front, bottom, top, rear and side panels. An outer casing is spaced from and surrounds the firebox. A combustion air plenum is positioned at a point above the bottom of the firebox and is connected to a conduit that communicates with a source external to the room in which the fireplace is situated for supplying combustion air to the fireplace. The firebox has a combustion air entry port in at least one of side panels of the firebox near the bottom of the firebox for supplying combustion air to the interior of the firebox. The combustion air port communicates with the combustion air plenum through a first passage. The flue passes upwardly through the firebox and is adapted to be connected to a second conduit that is in communication with a source external to the room which the fireplace is situated for exhausting the combustion gasses from the fireplace. A second passage is provided between the outer casing and the firebox for circulation of air to be heated along the firebox.

Zero clearance fireplace

A fireplace comprises a firebox having a top panel, bottom panel, rear panel and a flue. An outer casing is spaced from and surrounds the firebox. A combustion air feed passage for supplying combustion air to the firebox is provided. A heat exchanger, which is located downstream from the flue for receiving the combustion gases and for transmitting the heat from the combustion gases to air to be heated, is also provided. The fireplace includes a passage for conveying the combustion gases from the flue to a conduit in communication with a source external to the room in which the fireplace is situated for exhausting the combustion gases from the fireplace and a switch for selectively coupling the heat exchanger in series with the passage. The switch is operable between a first position which the flue gases pass through the heat exchanger before being vented to the outside and a second position which the flue gases pass through the passage, bypassing the heat exchanger, and are then vented to the outside. A second passage is provided between the outer casing and the firebox for circulation of air to be heated along with the heat exchanger.
