The invention relates to a hot-top mold for a strand casting apparatus, consisting of a hot-top, which lies on the upper side of a parting agent distributor and presses it with its underside against the surface of a mold, an overhang being formed on the radially inner surface of the hot-top, which protrudes beyond the parting agent distributor in the direction of take off of the strand, the hot-top being centered and held by an outer ring, which is releasably fastened to the mold. The mold surrounds a function ring toward the bearing surface of the mold which, together with the parting agent distributor, forms function surfaces with adjustable roughness on the surfaces. In the parting agent distributor, radial channels are formed at the upper side and the underside, the channel cross sections at the upper side and the underside being in a ratio of 1:3 to 1:5 to one another.

The apparatus has a starter bar of novel design which avoids the problems of deformation of the billet base, loss and waste of casting metal and loss of billet stability. The apparatus includes a tub-like having a peripheral wall and a central raised element or cone having tapered outer surfaces, to stabilize the base of the billet during casting and to dislodge the cooled billet as it shrinks.

Continuous casting apparatus

Process and apparatus for vertical continuous casting of metal in at lest one hot-top mold with metal supplied at constant level. The object of the invention is to provide a process and an apparatus that make it possible, while supplying metal at constant level, to avoid non-uniform temperature gradients, turbulence, and waste of metal. According to the invention this is achieved by coordinating the level, flow rate and distribution of molten metal to each hot-top mold from the outlet opening of a smelting furnace. This is produced by a pouring spout or trough that is supported through the upper wall area of each hot-top mold to supply molten metal to each hot-top mold through central outlet openings in the side walls of the trough, with the bottom of the trough being in a plane below the level of the outlet opening of the smelting furnace and below the upper surface of the melt in the hot-top mold, and with the trough outlet openings supplying molten metal to the center of each mold and causing it to flow outwardly therefrom.

Process and apparatus for vertical continuous casting of metal

Process and apparatus for the continuous casting of aluminum alloys in multiple moulds to form continuous castings of improved quality. The invention comprises supplying gas at a predetermined gas flow rate to each mould during the mould filling stage, sensing the gas pressure during the second casting or cooling stage and increasing or reducing the gas flow rate to maintain a predetermined gas pressure in the moulds during the continuous extrusion process.

Process and apparatus for continuously casting metals

Disclosed is a method for continuous casting with a continuous casting annular mold. The method includes: providing a continuous annular casting mold having a superstructure secured over a chill, the superstructure including an overhang extending over the inner wall of the chill; cooling the inner wall surface of the chill; introducing a mixture of a lubricant and gas under pressure at the transition of the overhang and the inner wall surface of the chill. The mixture is introduced in a direction parallel to the inner wall surface of the chill. A molten material to be cast is introduced to the mold in a direction from above the superstructure. The cast material is drawn off from below the chill, and the mixture of gas and lubricant maintains a gap between the material to be cast and the inner wall surface of the chill. A continuous casting mold is also disclosed.

Method and apparatus for continuous casting

Mold apparatus for continuous casting of metal, has an intermediate plate for supplying one or more mold release agents to the surface of the billet or ingot forming in a cooled mold. The intermediate plate has outlet openings which terminate in an intermediate area between a hot top section and a mold section in which the molten metal solidifies. The intermediate release agent supply plate having a central cross sectional opening is provided between the hot top section and the mold section, the surface of the central opening, adjoining the surfaces of the hot top section and the mold section. The intermediate plate comprises a flat plate having release agent-supply channels that extend to the opening edge and are precision-formed into the upper and lower surfaces of the intermediate plate to a constant depth. Liquid and/or gaseous mold release agents are fed through the supply plate to lubricate the mold surface along which the ingot is formed, cooled and lowered.

Continuous casting apparatus having gas and mold release agent supply

In a die-casting machine for producing castings from metals or metal alloys, which castings have a low content of gas, pores and oxides, melt is drawn by means of a vacuum out of a holding device (10) via a suction tube (11) into a casting chamber (3). A casting plunger (7) closes the inlet opening (16) to the casting chamber (3). In order to achieve as low as possible mechanical surface pressure due to flow of the melt, and fluviatile erosion of the die-side end of the inlet opening (16), and thus avoid high wear of this inlet edge or of the casting chamber with casting plunger, a planar or linear inlet cross-section (24, 27) as well as a curved deflection surface (20) on the casting plunger (7) are provided.
