Process for the preparation of a laminated enamelled glazing and enamel

An integument which contributes to the maintenance of surface integrity is disclosed, particularly a sheet for use in preparing laminates, such as vehicle windshields, in which an energy absorbing ply, for example, a ply of poly(vinyl butyral), is sandwiched between two glass plies, the sheet of this invention being applied to an exposed surface of one of the glass plies and having one surface layer comprising a thermoplastic polyurethane capable of adhering to a glass or plastic substrate and the other surface layer comprising a thermoset polyurethane having anti-lacerative, self-healing and anti-ablative properties; there is further disclosed the manufacture and application of such a sheet as a ply facing the interior of a vehicle, thereby forming a windshield the inwardly exposed surface of which comprises a thermoset polyurethane which protects the vehicle occupants from facial lacerations caused by windshield impact and which has self-healing properties.

Glazing laminates

An electrically heated automobile glazing has a surface coating (14) serving as resistance heater and a frame-shaped decorative layer (15) of an opaque bakable enamel. Frame-shaped decorative layer (15) consists of an electrically conductive bakable enamel and is in electrically conductive contact with surface coating (14). Current supply conductors (16) are made of thin strips of metal or metallic strips and are in electric contact with decorative layer (15). Surface coating (14) can be deposited between the surface of the glass and decorative layer (15) or between decorative layer (15) and current supply conductor (16).

Glazing laminates and method of making same

In the manufacture of plastic articles, particularly thermoset plastic sheets having good optical properties, by a process which involves forming the article on a surface to which the article tends to adhere, numerous and important advantages are realized by using, as a release agent which facilitates removal of the article from the surface, a salt of an addition product of a lower alkylene oxide which can be prepared by the fixation of a lower alkylene oxide on an organic material having a group reactive therewith, such as, alcohols, acids and amides, and subjecting the resulting product to esterification and neutralization.

A scratch-resistant polyurethane coating for safety windows is made by curing a sheet of a liquid composition comprising (1) a polyglycol ether resulting from the condensation of propylene oxide with trimethylolpropane and containing 10.5%-12.0% free hydroxyls and (2) a biuret of 1,6-hexamethylene-diisocyanate, having 21-22% isocyanate groups, the weight ratio of said biuret to said polyglycol ether being about 0.9-1.1.
