An applicator for applying liquid media to a material strip that can be moved relative to the applicator includes a housing having a drum chamber, a drum gate supported within the drum chamber and adapted to rotate therein, and a nozzle block spring-mounted to the housing. The nozzle block includes an inner surface communicating with the drum gate and a linear nozzle adapted to apply the liquid media to the material strip.

A system that applies strips of material, such as labels, to a cylindrical body, such as a bottle. The system includes a vacuum cylinder that holds the labels. The vacuum cylinder rotates bringing the labels into contact with a rotary application head that applies hot melt adhesive to the passing labels. The rotary application head includes a feed channel system that cooperates with a mask cylinder to controllably apply the adhesive. The adhesive covered label then is fixed to a bottle or other device that is rotating in a carousel.

An application head for applying, in a non-contacting way, liquid media to a length of material which is movable relative to the application head. The head includes a housing, a cylinder chamber in the housing, in which cylinder chamber a cylinder slide is rotably drivably supported, and a nozzle for ejecting medium, which nozzle can be controlled by the cylinder slide and extends transversely to the direction of movement of the length of material. The cylinder slide includes a cylindrical surface which, from the inside, can seal supply means leading to the nozzle. The cylinder slide also includes at least one surface groove in the cylindrical surface, which surface groove can be supplied with liquid medium and which, as a function of the rotational position, is able to communicate with the supply means leading to the nozzle. The at least one surface groove includes delimiting edges with a variable gradient relative to the circumferential direction.

Rotary application head

An application head () for the contact-free application of liquid media such as liquefied thermoplastic plastics or melted hot-melt adhesives to a length of material () which is movable relative to the application head. The head includes a housing (), a cylinder chamber () which is provided in the housing and in which a cylinder slide () is supported so as to be rotatingly driveable, and a nozzle device () for discharging liquid medium. The nozzle device () is controllable by the cylinder slide () and extends transversely to the direction of movement of the length of material. The cylinder slide (), in its cylindrical surface, includes first surface grooves () which are supplied with liquid medium and which, as a function of the rotational position, are able to communicate with the nozzle device (). The cylinder slide (), in its cylindrical surface, also includes second surface grooves () which accommodate sealing strips () which, with pre-pressure, rest against the surface of the cylinder chamber ().

An application head ( ) for application of hot-melt adhesive onto a width of material ( ) has a housing ( ) with a control slide chamber ( ). A cylinder control slide ( ) is supported and is rotatably drivable in the housing. At least one supply aperture introduces an adhesive into the control slide chamber ( ). A slotted nozzle ( ) releases the adhesive. The slotted nozzle is controllable by the cylinder control slide ( ). The nozzle extends transversely to the direction of movement of the width of material ( ). The cylinder control slide ( ) has a cylindrical surface which is able to seal the slotted nozzle ( ) from the inside. The control slide ( ) also has surface grooves ( ) in the cylindrical surface. The grooves, as a function of their rotational positions, are able to communicate with the slotted nozzle. Furthermore, the cylinder control slide ( ) inside the control slide chamber, has either an inner cavity ( ) supplied with medium through a supply aperture, as well as radial exit bores ( ) leading from the inner cavity into the surface grooves, or it has a helical or spiral-shaped surface groove in the cylindrical surface, as well as a storage volume for medium, which communicates with the at least one surface groove.
