The invention relates to a system for lubricating a closing mechanism on a saddle coupling comprising a closing mechanism which is arranged on the lower side of a coupling plate and which comprises at least one closing hook and/or closing bar, provided with a coating, and a fat reservoir which is connected to the closure hook by means of a lubricating line. The invention also relates to a coating of individual components of the system, i.e. the closing hook and the closing bar, in addition to the use of a coating. The invention is characterized in that the coating of the closing hook and/or the closing bar is embodied as a sliding coating.

Fifth wheels are used to establish an articulated connection between a truck tractor and a semi-trailer. They consist of a plate ( ) which is attached to the truck tractor and generally has at least one arched slideway lining (4 ,4 ) acting as a bearing surface and fitting into corresponding recesses of the fifth wheel plate ( ) where it is fastened. According to the invention, fastening is provided in the form of a positive fit connection, whereby the lower part of the slideway lining (4 ) and the upper part of the plate ( ) have joining elements ( ) to ensure a rotationally locked positive fit, thus enabling thermal dilation to occur in the fifth wheel plate ( ). Preferably, the positive fitting joining elements for the lower side of the slideway lining (4 ) are configured as ribs ( ) extending radially outwards from a virtual center point ( ) and the positive fitting joining elements for the upper side of the fifth wheel plate ( ) are configured as complementary grooves ( ). Fastening elements such as screws or snap-in connections make sure that the fit remains positive.

Fifth wheel

A fifth wheel is described with a coupling plate having elements for fastening to the vehicle frame. It is supposed to facilitate the mounting on the vehicle frame, while it should be possible to equalize manufacturing tolerances of the frame in simple fashion. The fastening elements attach to pivot pins, which are detachably arranged on the fifth wheel and project outward to the side beyond the coupling plate.

A fifth wheel includes a coupling plate formed with an insertion slot for receiving a trailer king pin. The insertion slot is provided with a central aperture sized to receive the king pin and formed with a counterbored step. A non-metallic wear ring is fitted within the aperture and is retained against axial displacement with an arcuate metal holding plate mounted within the counterbored step, and partially overlapping the wear ring. The wear ring includes an outer contour wall and an inner contour wall. The outer contour wall and the inner surface of the aperture share a common center of curvature, which center of curvature is eccentric relative to the axis of rotation of the king pin mounted therein such that any rotational force resulting from the rotation of the king pin translates linearly into the wear ring. Additionally, the inner contour of the wear ring has a center of curvature axially aligned with the axis of rotation of the king pin to reduce the frictional engagement between the wear ring and the king pin. Additionally, a pair of slip pads are positioned within recesses formed on the top surface of the coupling plate. Each recess is somewhat larger than the slip pads to provide for thermal expansion, but remains relatively close in size to the slip pads to prevent lateral displacement thereof. In order to reduce fracture as a result of the king pin contacting the slip pads, the slip pads do not extend downwardly over the inclined surface of the coupling plate.
