A gas dryer having a housing, an outlet chamber, a pressure relief space, and a connection connecting the outlet chamber to the pressure relief space. An outlet valve is located within the connection connecting the outlet chamber to the pressure relief space. A piston which actuates opening and closing of the outlet is subjected to pressure contained in a control chamber. This pressure urges the outlet valve into an open position. The gas dryer also has an auxiliary valve system which is located between the control chamber and the pressure relief space. The auxiliary valve system controls the flow of the pressure medium between the control chamber and the relief space.

Gas dryer with an outlet chamber

A dual circuit brake valve system comprises first and second brake circuits, first and second combined inlet and outlet valves through which first and second braking pressures respectively are delivered to said first and second brake circuits, and first and second pistons which actuate the first and second combined inlet and outlet valves respectively. The second piston is actuated by the first braking pressure which serves as a control pressure therefor. To achieve simultaneous actuation of the first and second combined inlet and outlet valves, a compression spring is installed between the first and second pistons and mechanically connects these to each other. Thereby, a pressure difference of .DELTA.p between the pressure in the first brake circuit and the pressure in the second brake circuit, which approaches zero, is achieved. In order to be able to increase the pressure difference .DELTA.p in the two brake circuits, a third piston is provided between the first and second pistons. The third piston is subjected to braking pressure from the first brake circuit in such a manner that the third piston compresses the compression spring when a predetermined level of pressure is reached in the first brake circuit, thereby causing the mechanical connection between the first piston and the second piston to be suspended.

Dual circuit brake valve system

A brake cylinder is disclosed featuring a reduction of weight and a construction for reducing a tendency to vibrate. The piston (11), serving for the brake actuation, is formed out of a plastic mold part and is furnished with a simplified guiding of the piston. A pressure piece (44) serves for the transfer of the braking force, and is formed at the brake cylinder as a plastic mold part for allowing a relatively large distance from the brake drum. The new brake cylinder can be used advantageously for vehicles with wedge expanding brakes, where the brake force is transmitted by and applied with a pressure agent.

Brake cylinder for the actuation of a vehicle brake

A valve including a housing in which is disposed a relay piston. The relay piston has an upper control surface adjacent a control chamber leading to a control connection. The underside of the relay piston is in communication with a reaction chamber leading to a working pressure connection. An outlet valve seat is formed on the lower extremity of the relay piston. A multistage hollow graduated piston disposed within a graduated bore formed in the housing. The graduated piston has a tapered edge extending downwardly to form an inlet valve seat. A hollow valve element is cooperatively associated with the inlet and outlet valve seats to form inlet and outlet valves. The underside of the graduated piston a reaction chamber which is connected to a second control pressure connection. A supply pressure connection is connected to an annular chamber which is in communication with the inlet valve so the working pressure is gradually increased in steps until a predetermined pressure value representing an emergency situation is exceeded which causes the working pressure to immediately rise to the full pressure value of the supply pressure.

Relay valve for pneumatic or hydraulic application

A valve including a housing in which is disposed a relay piston. The relay piston has an upper control surface adjacent a control chamber leading to a control connection. The underside of the relay piston is in communication with a reaction chamber leading to a working pressure connection. An outlet valve seat is formed on the lower extremity of the relay piston. A multistage hollow graduated piston disposed within a graduated bore formed in the housing. The graduated piston has a tapered edge extending downwardly to form an inlet valve seat. A hollow valve element is cooperatively associated with the inlet and outlet valve seats to form inlet and outlet valves. The underside of the graduated piston is located in a reaction chamber which is connected to a second control pressure connection. A supply pressure connection is connected to an annular chamber which is in communication with the inlet valve so the working pressure is gradually increased in steps until a predetermined pressure value representing an emergency situation is exceeded which causes the working pressure to immediately rise to the full pressure value of the supply pressure.

An apparatus is disclosed for the control of brake pressure in a trailer pulled by a tractor. The apparatus includes a two-circuit controllable relay valve as the trailer control valve. The first circuit is controlled by the brake valve of the tractor with the pressure from the brake apparatus of such tractor. The second circuit can be optionally-connected to a distribution valve with a pressure medium source with a specified pressure or with atmosphere. Activation of the distribution valve is controlled so that the distribution valve connects the second circuit with the pressure medium source before or at the beginning of the activation of the first circuit. With this apparatus, the brake pressure can be increased in the brake apparatus of the trailer prior to increase of the brake pressure in the brake apparatus of the tractor. The level of brake pressure increased first in the brake unit of the trailer can be regulated by a set screw acting on the trailer control valve.

Apparatus for the control of brake pressure

The invention relates to a load-controlled brake force controller system for a pneumatically operated brake for tractor and/or trailer vehicles. A housing includes a load-controlled brake pressure controller for regulating the control pressure released by a brake valve as a function of the load sustained by the vehicle. A relay valve connected in series relationship with the brake pressure controller to cause compressed air to be introduced to the brake from a reservoir when the brake valve is activated. The relay valve being activated by a relay piston which is pressurized toward an open direction of the relay valve by a modulated pressure and toward a closed direction of the relay valve by the braking pressure in an outlet chamber which is connected to the brakes and which can be connected by the relay valve to the reservoir. A graduated piston for providing a graduated increase of the brake pressure beyond the value corresponding to the current control ratio up to the available supply pressure and being adapted to go into operation at a predetermined control pressure.

Apparatus for adjusting a mechanically operable load-dependent braking force regulator including a control shaft having a cam surface for setting the axial position of a push rod which controls a valve for supplying brake-operating pressure according to the axial position of said push rod. The axial position of the push rod is set by the cam surface on the control shaft which is rotated through a lever reflecting the actual vehicle load. The regulator may be set at a location away from the vehicle, such as a test rack, then installed on the vehicle. Thus it is not necessary to transport the testing equipment to the vehicle.
