A headlight for vehicles with a projection module is provided, which includes a bowl-shaped reflector, an illumination unit dedicated to the reflector, a lens, and a shutter arranged between the lens and the reflector. The shutter forms a light-dark-border of a light bundle. The lens features a convex front side facing away from the reflector and an optical element mounted to the headlight in the lower middle margin area on the front. The light beams emerging from the optical element are directed to an area above the light-dark-border of the light bundle of the headlight. In vertical second planar sections, to which the optical axis of the projection module extends perpendicularly, the surface of the optical element is concave-shaped, and in vertical planar sections extending parallel to the optical axis, it is convex-shaped.

Headlight for Vehicles

To provide for improved light distribution of a vehicular headlight furning both depressed-beam and high-beam illumination, a shadow cap (9, 25) partly surrounds a main light source, typically filaments of halogen incandescent lamp, located in a reflector (2) which has two segments (14, 15) of different contours. The first one (14) of the reflector segments is optically associated with the main filament furnishing depressed-beam illumination, and this segment has a free-formed surface reflection contour. A second segment of the reflector is optically associated with an auxiliary filament (8, 18). The shadow cap (9, 25) provides a shadow angle of between 100.degree. and 140.degree. with respect to light emitted from the main filament (7) to define a shadow zone (12) and a light zone (13) on the reflector. The shadow cap is shaped and positioned with respect to the auxiliary filament (8, 18) such that the auxiliary filament is located within the shadow zone (12). The auxiliary filament is located by an offset of between 0.25 and 2 times below the optical axis (A) of the reflector, and the spatial distribution of the segments is such that the reflector is associated with a light zone and a shadow zone, respectively, as formed by the shadow cap. For high-beam illumination, with only the auxiliary filament (8, 18) energized, a concentrated beam and somewhat spread illumination based on reflection from the first reflector segment (14) is obtained; when the main filament (7) is additionally energized, concentrated beam and defined spread-out illumination results.

A reflector for a dimmed or dimmable motor vehicle headlight is divided into an asymmetrical wedge-shaped sector, an upper sector, and a lower sector which are stepped axially from on another. The reflection surface is thereby formed such that a desirable light distribution is achieved without a correcting lens in horizontal and vertical areas perpendicular to a middle axis of the headlight. The desired light distribution of the asymmetrical wedge-shape sector is such that a corresponding point of every reflected light-filament image of each arbitrary point of the asymmetrical wedge-shaped reflection surface is positioned immediately near a prescribed borderline, such as a legislatively mandated borderline.

Reflector for dimmed or dimmable motor vehicle headlights

A dimmed motor vehicle headlight is provided with an ellipsoidally shaped reflector, where a light source is disposed at a first focal point of the reflector. A collector lens is supported by a frame having an annular part which is connected to the reflector and where the lens is disposed behind a second focal point of the reflector. A diaphragm is provided which is in the path of the light beam ahead of the collector lens and disposed at the respective focal point of the collector lens. The diaphragm is provided adjustable and with an upper substantially horizontally running edge that generates a light-dark boundary. The diaphragm and the frame are formed as a single part. The frame is provided by a beaker shaped sheet metal piece, where a cut out floor area serves to support the lens and where arm shaped webs are cut free from a wall forming a jacket face. One of these webs is angled toward the optical axis such that its upper end edge forms the diaphragm edge for the light-dark boundary. The remaining webs of the frame provide the support arms for the frame.

Dimmed motor vehicle headlight

The invention refers to a motor vehicle projection headlight, where the projection lens is in part covered by a light transmitting plate. The light transmitting plate has edge regions which are of a wider diameter than the lens. An annular light impermeable cover, which surrounds the lens immediately and at a small distance, is disposed at a distance to the edge region of the light permeable plate. The surface of the cover toward the light transmitting plate is of high reflectivity.

A screened vehicular headlight with an ellipsoidal reflector has a source of light positioned in the reflector's first focal area. The headlight has a collecting lens positioned in the path of the rays behind the second focal area and accommodated in a rectangular area of a holder. A screen that produces a light-dark border is positioned between the collecting lens and the reflector and in the focal area of the lens. A transparent cover over the collecting lens has margins extending radially beyond the lens. The holder that accommodates the collecting lens has, above the horizontal midplane of the headlight, an upper marginal section that is bent toward the inside of the headlight and lateral marginal sections that extend out at an acute angle to the optical axis and extend far enough into the headlight to screen off not only the light that leaves bulb and directly strikes the marginal areas of the lens cover that extend radially beyond the collecting lens but also the view into the headlight through the marginal areas of the lens cover.

The invention provides a headlight for a motor vehicle with a concave reflector, which has a light filament disposed in its inner part with the longitudinal axis of the filament about in parallel with the direction of the outgoing beam. The reflector is composed of a surface spanned by nearly parabolic branches generated by the intersection of the reflector and of planes including the axis of the reflector. The upper part of the reflector includes parabola branches having a focal point close to the vertex point and a focal point more remote from the vertex. At least the lower part of the reflector has the focal points of the conical sections near parabolic branches form a focal line, where the length of the focal line coincides at least in part about with the position and length of the incandescent filament. The section through the transition between upper and lower reflector part is represented by a cone section, which is nearly parabolic.
