It is provided a method, including coupling respective portions of a transmission resource to fixed beams in a 1:1 relationship such that the portions coupled to different fixed beams do not overlap, wherein the transmission resource is foreseen for transmission by the cell, each of the fixed beams is defined by a fixed beam weight vector, and a number of the fixed beams is predefined and equal to or larger than 2; allocating one of the fixed beams and the portion of the transmission resource coupled to the one of the fixed beams to a terminal; configuring a transmitting device to transmit to the terminal in the fixed beam and the portion of the transmission resource allocated to the terminal.

Time- and/or frequency-domain coordinated scheduling and beamforming

It is described a method for controlling a radio resource control connection between a base station and a user equipment, wherein a radio resource control connection between the base station and the user equipment is established for exchanging control messages between the base station and the user equipment the control messages being required for an application running on the user equipment. The method includes determining a first value being indicative for a mobility characteristic of the user equipment and a second value being indicative for a data traffic characteristic of the user equipment, comparing the first value and the second value, setting a release timer based on the comparison, and controlling the radio resource control connection based on the release timer, wherein the radio resource control connection will end upon expiry of the release timer.

Controlling a radio resource control connection between a base station and a user equipment

It is described a method for informing a user equipment of an activity status of a second communication carrier within a cellular network, wherein the user equipment is served by a base station and is adapted to communicate with the base station via a first communication carrier being assigned to the base station. Signals between the base station and the user equipment are transmittable using the first communication carrier and, if the second communication carrier is activated, using in addition the second communication carrier, wherein the first communication carrier is divided into subframes. The method includes sending an activity signal from the base station to the user equipment, wherein the activity signal includes information concerning the activity status of the second communication carrier, and re-sending the activity signal from the base station to the user equipment during predefined subframes.

Informing a user equipment of an activity status of a communication carrier

There is provided a method for scheduling user terminals for downlink transmission in a communication network, the method including determining a duration of a discontinuous reception cycle for a user terminal, wherein the beginning of the cycle triggers a first active period during which the user terminal is in an active mode; and determining an interval between periodic channel quality indicator reports for the user terminal. The method further includes aligning the discontinuous reception cycle with the interval between the periodic channel quality indicator reports such that the periodic channel quality indicator is transmitted within the first active period of the discontinuous reception cycle, receiving the periodic channel quality indicator during the first active period of each discontinuous reception cycle, thus obtaining an up-to-date channel quality indicator for the discontinuous reception cycle, and scheduling the user terminals for downlink transmission by taking the received periodic channel quality indicator into account.

Scheduling of user terminals in communication network

A scheduling processor allocates a time slot of a communication protocol to a user equipment for data transmission based on received control data of the same or another user equipment in a current time slot and received user data of the same or another user equipment in a preceding time slot, while ignoring user data of the same or any other user equipment received in the current time slot. The scheduling processor also allocates a frequency resource to the user equipment. A control channel managing processor allocates signaling resources on a control channel for the submission of control information to the user equipment, which informs of the time slot allocated by the time domain scheduling processor as well as of the frequency resource allocated by the frequency domain scheduling processor.

Communication resource allocation strategy

It is described a method for selecting a transmission mode for a radio data transfer between a user equipment and a base station of a telecommunication network. The method includes (a) determining the quality of a radio link, which extends between the user equipment and the base station, (b) determining the radio load within the telecommunication network, and (c) selecting a transmission mode based on the quality of the radio link and on the radio load. It is further described a control device for selecting a transmission mode for a radio data transfer between a user equipment and a base station and a computer program for controlling the described transmission mode selection method.
