An actuating device () actuates jaws () of a steady rest (). The jaws can be used for clamping or supporting a workpiece (). The actuating device includes a carrier () with a mounting side () to which the steady rest () can be mounted. An outer end () of an actuating part () projects away from the mounting side () of the carrier () and includes a connecting arrangement () as the interface for the connection with an input part () of the steady rest (). An inner end () of the actuating part () is movably coupled with a piston () of a pneumatic cylinder () via a coupling arrangement (). The coupling arrangementincludes a slide () that is immovably connected to the piston (), said slide having on it at least one slotted gate (). The slotted gate () defines a gate path oriented obliquely to longitudinal direction L and to height direction H, along which gate path the at least one gate element () can be guided in a movable manner. The gate element is connected to the inner end () of the actuating part ().

Actuating device for a steady rest

A coolant distributor () includes a rigid connection unit () installed to be movable relative to the machine frame. An exchangeable distributor unit () can be connected to or disconnected from the connection unit () via a gripper device associated with the machine tool. The connection unit () has a connection face, on which at least one coolant supply channel opens. A distributor face on the distributor unit (), where at least one distributor channel opens, contacts the connector face. The plane in which the connection face extends and the plane in which the distributor face extends are tilted from a connection direction (R) in which the distributor unit () moves to make and break the connection. A retaining force can be applied in the connection direction (R) by a locking device to retain the distributor unit in the connected position.
