A machine for the production of a continuous web, particularly of paper or cardboard, may include a plurality of rolls around which a continuous web may be guided. The machine may also include a blocking device, arranged in a vicinity of an edge of the continuous web, to prevent turbulences and arranged at a predetermined distance from a free stretch formed by the continuous web traveling between two adjacent rolls. The blocking device may extend along a longitudinal portion of the free stretch, i.e, in a transport direction of the continuous web, and/or may extend across a portion of the free stretch transverse to the transport direction of the continuous web.

Blocking device in a paper-making machine

The hobbing machine has a tool assembly with a tool spindle and a workpiece holding assembly with a workpiece spindle. A first drive unit for driving the tool spindle is provided. A second drive unit for driving the workpiece spindle is provided. The tool spindle and/or the workpiece spindle is a rotor of the first and second drive unit so that the tool spindle and/or workpiece spindle can be directly driven by the drive unit.

Hobbing machine

In a two-wire cylinder dryer, the wire guide rolls are so arranged that the web and wire proceed jointly from the first cylinder to the wire guide roll. An air carrier box is arranged in the shaft contained between two cylinders. The air carrier box has an air channel connecting the area of the leaving point A with an opposite pressure zone. Hot air flows into the air channel through a driver nozzle, so that in the area of the leaving point there is a vacuum zone created which is outwardly bounded by a sealing strip. The pressure zone is bounded by further sealing strips.

Two-wire cylinder dryer

The microfiltration of a turbid liquid, especially the microfiltration of a fermentation liquid to recover beer from a suspension containing excess yeast is controlled by measuring a flow velocity (v) and a pressure drop (.DELTA.p) and calculating from the flow velocity (v) and the pressure drop (.DELTA.p) by an apparatus-characteristic function F (v, .DELTA.p) containing the flow velocity (v) and pressure drop (.DELTA.p) as variables a value of concentration of the turbidity-producing solids in the retentate stream. The value of the concentration as thus determined forms an actual value which is compared with a setpoint value of the concentration to determine a difference which is used to control the rate at which the concentrate stream is withdrawn from the retentate stream.

Microfiltration process and apparatus

A paper web travels together with a support belt over two heatable drying cylinders and a guide roll between the cylinders, which together define a pocket. Vacuum prevails in the pocket upon operation. Above the pocket there is provided a sealing strip support with sealing strips fastened to it. The sealing strips are at the drying cylinders where they enter the pocket, and these strips counter the penetration of air into the pocket. The sealing strip support is moveable in various ways so that the distance between the sealing strips and the cylinder outer surfaces can be enlarged temporarily. The guide roll is hollow, is connectable with a vacuum source and has a perforated roll shell and is free of stationary inserted parts. A separate vacuum source communicates with extra perforations at axial end edge chambers of the guide roll for applying greater vacuum at the edge chambers than over the remainder of the roll.

Pocket sealing strip arrangement in a single-wire drying group

A method and apparatus for determining the angular position of a workpiece and for positioning the same relative to at least one tool. The workpiece has at least one set of teeth. Pulses are derived from a rotating reference workpiece and from a reference shaft which has a known gear ratio with the reference workpiece, and consequently also turns. A first phase measurement is undertaken between the pulses, the result of which is stored as the reference value. The reference workpiece is replaced with a workpiece which is to be machined and which is provided with teeth. A second phase measurement between the pulses of the refernece shaft and of the reference workpiece are undertaken in a second measuring operation. The reference value of the first phase meaasurement is compared with the result of the second phase measurement. The workpiece is turned relative to the reference shaft in conformity with the difference between the two measured values.

Method and apparatus for determining the angular position of a workpiece

Air guide box 20 for a paper machine where the paper web 16 to be dried runs together with the backing belt 18 across drying cylinders 10 through 14. The air guide box 20 extends from a point A where the backing belt 18 departs from a cylinder 10, 12 toward a point Z where the backing belt runs on the following cylinder 11, 13. A diverging gap 23 remains between the air guide box 20 and the backing belt 18. The air guide box 20 has in the area of the departure point A a mechanical air boundary layer stripper 25. Facing toward the backing belt 18 and diverging in its running direction from the contact screen, the wall 21 of the air guide box 20 is shaped in accordance with the operationally occurring curved trajectory of the contact screen 18, is composed, preferably in polygon fashion, from flat wall elements 21.1, 21.2 and 21.3.

Air guide box for the drying section of a high-speed paper machine

In a device for stabilizing the run of a material web, which successively runs over two rolls, namely a delivering and a receiving roll, there is a box provided that extends between the delivering and the receiving roll across the width of the paper web. This box has a so-called guide wall that extends along the course of the material web, with an air gap remaining between the guide wall and the material web. Additionally provided on the box are means which create a vacuum in the air gap. In a device of this type, the guide wall is shaped in a way such that its spacing from the theoretical trajectory plane tangent to the two rolls is in the center area of the material web greater than it is in the araa of the material web edges. A device of this type serves to better stabilize the smooth running of the material web on its way between the rolls. A preferred applicational area of the invention is an air guide box (20) for the drying section of a high-speed paper machine where the paper web (16) to be dried meanders together with a backing belt (18) over drying cylinders (10-14).

A method and a device serve for cooling a magnet system, in particular a magnet system (50) of a nuclear spin tomograph, with high homogeneity of the magnetic field. A coil (51, 52, 53, 54) made from an electrically conductive material having a finite active resistance is connected to a power supply unit (72). A cooling body being in thermally conductive contact with the coil (51, 52, 53, 54) is passed by a cooling agent. In a first operating mode, at rated duty, the coil (51, 52, 53, 54) is supplied with a rated current, and the active throughput of the cooling agent is adjusted to a rated value. In order to keep the energy costs low during inoperative times of the magnet system, while keeping the waiting trimes required when the magnet system is switched on again as low as possible, a second operating mode, defined as stand-by duty, is provided during which the coil (51, 52, 53, 54) is supplied with a rest current and the active throughput of the cooling agent is adjusted to a rest value.

A drive system for a workpiece table of a machine tool, especially a gear cutting machine, which includes two worm wheel drives of different transmission ratio, each worm wheel drive including a worm and a worm wheel. The worms of the worm wheel drives being adapted alternately to be drivingly connected to a drive shaft. The worms of the worm wheel drives are drivingly connected to each other while the transmission ratio of this transmission connection of the two worms equals the reciprocal transmission ratio of the worm wheel drives with regard to each other. The worm wheels of both worm wheel drives which are rotated in the same direction and at equal speed which latter depends on the respective coupled worm wheel drive, are coupled to each other as well as to the workpiece table.
