A process for introducing one or more threads into a texturizing nozzle, in which the texturizing nozzle, together with the inlet member, is first brought into a position in which the thread is led transversely past and in the immediate vicinity of the texturizing nozzle, the thread is sucked against the nozzle with the orifice of the inlet member enlarged, immediately after being sucked against the texturizing nozzle the thread is cut beyond the nozzle so that the cut end is sucked back into the nozzle, the suction supply required for the sucking-in is replaced by pressurized fluid texturizing medium, and the cross-section of the inlet orifice of the texturizing device is reduced to a value advantageous for steady state operation. An apparatus for carrying out the above process, comprising a pivotable texturizing nozzle with an inlet member of variable cross-section, and a suction device which permits the pressure to be reduced, relative to atmospheric pressure, at the inlet member of the texturizing nozzle, is also disclosed.

A process for the simultaneous texturizing and entangling of filament bundles by treating filament bundles of synthetic, high-molecular weight materials with a heated fluid in two tubular treatment chambers, in which process spatial or periodic irregularities are produced, in the treatment zones, in the flow of fluid and/or filament bundles. Preferably, a certain range of values of a volume mass flow factor is adhered to.

Simultaneous texturizing and entangling of filament bundles

A process for crimping filaments by treating the filaments which are to be crimped, and are carried by a heated gas, in a first treatment chamber, and intermingling the heated filaments in an extended second treatment chamber, from which the gas carrier medium is drawn off through longitudinal slots radially to the direction of travel, wherein only sufficient gas is allowed to flow axially with the crimped filaments from the second treatment chamber that the travel of the crimped filaments is not impeded, while the bulk of the carrier gases is drawn off radially from the second treatment chamber. It is advantageous to draw off the carrier gas in the upper part, which comprises from about 25 to 75%, preferably from 40 to 60%, of the total length of the longitudinal slots of the second treatment chamber.

Filaments or filament bundles, which are conveyed by a heated gas, are crimped by treating them in a preheat chamber and crimping them in an elongate chamber from which the heated gas medium issues through longitudinal slits. A stream of cold gas is made to impinge on the outside of the lower one-third of the elongate chamber without allowing significant amounts of this cold gas to enter the said chamber. The resulting filaments or filament bundles have very good dyeing characteristics.

Texturizing of filaments

Apparatus for crimping filaments using turbulent heated fluids to which the filaments are exposed in two treatment chambers connected to one another. The first treatment chamber is constructed in two parts, the parting plane between the two parts is stepped and the filament guide means are intersected by the parting plane. The filaments are easy to introduce and the operating temperature need not be reduced in the event of any filament breaking.
