A casting roller or belt for a revolving chill mould of a strip casting system is provided for the manufacture of an aluminium alloy strip. The strip casting system for manufacturing the aluminium alloy strip includes at least one such revolving chill mould with a casting gap. In the casting roller or belt of the strip casting system, adhesion to the casting roller or belt is avoided during strip casting, and a low-segregation and crack-free aluminium alloy strip can be produced under industrial conditions. This is achieved by utilizing a specific surface structure of the casting roller or belt in which a roughness value Sa is more than 5 μm and an average peak count RPc (0.5 μm) is less than 42 cm.

Release agent-free aluminium strip casting

A strip casting system for aluminium and/or aluminium alloys comprising a casting furnace and a revolving chill mould having a casting gap. The revolving chill mould is designed as a roll pair, roller pair, caterpillar pair or belt pair. The strip casting system has an active means for transporting metal melt from the casting furnace to the casting gap and a casting region arranged in front of the casting gap. The casting region is delimited on one side by the revolving chill mould. A melt pool is formed in the casting region, from which metal melt flows or is drawn into the casting gap. The casting furnace is connected to the casting region by a pipe system with means for feeding the metal melt into the casting region, which can feed the metal melt to the casting region below the surface of the melt pool formed in the casting region.

Melt feeding for strip casting systems

In a slide valve closure for the casting of a metal melt a slider plate and a stationary closure part are braced against each other by means of spring units or by other means. There is provided a casing framework attachable to a mould or the like, in which is fixed a detachable casing part on which the spring units are held and in which the stationary closure part and the slider plate can be accommodated. This allows safe operation and simple and rapid mounting and dismounting of the slide valve closure.

A method for uphill casting/low-pressure casting, especially of light metal alloys, with a casting furnace lying below a casting table, having a riser pipe and a mouth opening of the riser pipe and having a mould with an underlying pouring-in opening and having a slide valve closure, forming a flow-through channel which for casting takes on a substantially straight, longitudinal course, wherein for shut-off in the slide valve closure, two opening sections of the flow-through channel directly adjacent one to the other are displaced with respect to one another transversely to the longitudinal course of the flow-through channel directly after casting with still liquid melt in the pouring-in opening, so that an overlying opening section remains in open communication with the pouring-in opening free from undercut and an underlying opening section remains in open communication with the mouth opening of the riser pipe, wherein the opening sections are completely offset with respect to each other.

Method and apparatus for uphill casting with a slide valve closure placed on the casting table

A method for uphill/low pressure casting of a liquid melt in a device which has a casting furnace lying below a casting table, a mould with an underlying pouring-in opening and a slide valve closure forming a flow-through channel having a substantially straight longitudinal course during casting the liquid melt. The casting method constitutes casting the liquid melt in the pouring-in opening of the mould, shutting off the slide valve closure by displacing an overlying opening section and an underlying opening section of the flow-through channel directly after casting the liquid melt in the mould, which liquid melt is still in the pouring-in opening. The liquid melt is lowered below the mouth opening of the riser pipe and the mould is placed on the riser pipe so that a downward pressure is set between the slide valve closure and the mouth opening of the riser pipe which behaves elastically flexibly.
