The present invention relates to a method and device for determining a relative velocity between a host () and a target (). The present invention relates in particular to a method of the type that can be used in motor vehicle radar systems and specifically in radar systems of the type that detect obstacles in a blind spot of a motor vehicle. In the method according to the invention the following steps are carried out: substantially simultaneously determining a value for a radial velocity and a bearing with regard to a predefined spatial direction for a large number of measurement points () on the target (); calculating a large number of quotients from the radial velocity and the cosine of the associated bearing, a quotient being calculated for each of the measurement points (); determining an estimated relative velocity between the host () and the target () by forming an average of the large number of quotients.

The present invention relates to a method for correction of a signal which is derived from wheel rotation speed signals and represents the vehicle speed, wherein the vehicle has a device by means of which the environment of the vehicle can be identified, and wherein the correction of the signal which is derived from the wheel rotation speeds and represents the vehicle speed is carried out on the basis of the speed at which objects in the environment which are identified as being stationary move relative to the vehicle.

A radome for a range warning radar system has metallic structures, such as a manufacturer's symbol or a characteristic structure, formed therein. Surfaces of the characteristic structure are coated with a metallic or metallically glossy layer which is transparent to electromagnetic radiation of the radar system and reflects visible light.

A method for determining the visual range improves the visual range measurement adopted as a basis, to the end that the measurement of the visual range can take place using one emitter and using one receiver, which are disposed to be stationary. The display, as an indicating appliance, is produced in such a way that it makes it possible to recognize, in symbolic proportion, both the degree of difference between the instantaneous speed and the speed which is currently still safe and the current measure of the danger or freedom from danger in the manner of an analog display which reproduces trends.

Method and apparatus for displaying the impending danger due to speed

The device for visibility measurement is designed primarily for use in motor vehicles. A light emitter is arranged inside the driver's compartment preferably on the rear view mirror in front of the windshield. The light emitter generates light pulses or flashes radiating through the windshield. The light scattered back due to soiling on the inside and outside of the windshield or in scatter zones, formed by fog or smoke or the like, in front of the windshield, impinges a light sensor, preferably likewise arranged on the rear view mirror inside the driver's compartment. By utilizing light pulses of various wavelengths and processing of the output signals of the light sensor in predetermined or predeterminable time windows or intervals, not only the respective visibility but also the type of viewing impairment can be determined.
