The presently claimed invention is directed to 2,2,6-trimethyl-4,5-dihydro-3H-oxepine and its use to impart an aroma impression to a composition. The presently claimed invention also relates to a method of imparting such an aroma impression. The presently claimed invention is further directed to compositions comprising 2,2,6-trimethyl-4,5-dihydro-3H-oxepine and at least one aroma chemical as well as to compositions comprising 2,2,6-trimethyl-4,5-dihydro-3H-oxepine and at least one further component selected from the group consisting of aroma chemicals, surfactants, oil components, antioxidants, deodorant-active agents and solvents.

The present invention relates to a process for preparing 4,4'-[1-(trifluoromethyl)alkylidene]bis(2,6-diphenylphenols), in particular for preparing 4,4&#x2032;-[1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylidene]bis(2,6-diphenylphenol), which comprises the self-condensation of cyclohexanone in the presence of a basic catalyst to form tricyclic condensation products, dehydrogenation of the resulting tricyclic condensation products in the presence of a supported transition metal catalyst in the condensed phase to form 2,6-diphenylphenol and reaction of the 2,6-diphenylphenol with a trifluoromethyl ketone. The invention further provides an improved process for preparing 2,6-diphenylphenol by aldol self-condensation of cyclohexanone.

Method for the production of 4,4'-[1-(trifluoromethyl)alkylidene]-bis-(2,6-diphenylphenols)

4,8-Dimethyl-3,7-nonadien-2-ol in which the weight ratio of (E)-4,8-dimethyl-3,7-nonadien-2-ol to the sum of (E)- and (Z)-4,8-dimethyl-3,7-nonadien-2-ol is at least 80% or in which the weight ratio of (Z)-4,8-dimethyl-3,7-nonadien-2-ol to the sum of (E)- and (Z)-4,8-dimethyl-3,7-nonadien-2-ol is at least 80%, is used as fragrance. The fragrances have a unique rose-like, floral character. Citrus-like, minty, green accompanying notes reminiscent of rhubarb arise.

The present invention relates to a continuous process for preparing racemic or optically active menthol in pure or enriched form by distillatively separating menthol from substance mixtures which comprise essentially menthol and diastereomers thereof.
