Methods and/or devices for detecting the flow rate of a flowing medium, in particular the flow rate of a flowing air mass, are described, in which the flowing medium is detected with two evaluation methods that operate according to different principles and the two measurement signals obtained are set in relation to each other in order to determine correction methods. Since the two measurement methods react differently to interference effects, the comparison of the two output signals permits conclusions to be drawn as to the type and the order of magnitude of the interference effects and a corrected measurement signal can be obtained, which is independent of the interference effects.

Method and device for determining the throughput of a flowing medium

A mass flow sensor detects the intensity of a media flow. The mass flow sensor includes a measurement chip, with a dielectric membrane and a frame of monocrystalline silicon. At least one heater is arranged on the membrane. The measurement chip is installed in the in-flow channel of a housing. By means of the structure of the housing, contamination of the measurement chip is reduced, thermal equalization with the media flow is improved, the resistance of the sensor to sudden pressure variations is increased, and the dielectric contacts are improved.

A method and a circuit arrangement for measuring the air flow in the air intake passage of an internal combustion engine provide an output pulse signal which can be easily processed in digital control devices. The unbalance voltage of a measuring bridge, which is thermally coupled with a flow measuring member, is supplied to a voltage-to-frequency converter; a frequency which is proportional to the unbalance voltage of the bridge circuit is provided at the output of the voltage-to-frequency converter for further processing. At the same time, this frequency is used for triggering a monostable multivibrator which connects the flow measuring member with a voltage source in a timed manner.

Method and apparatus for measuring the air flow in the air intake

A method for producing an air flow rate meter substrate which includes at least one resistive film on one side of the substrate with a teardrop end face that faces the direction of air flow to be determined, formed by dipping the face end of the substrate into a liquid plastic or a lacquer composition.

A fuel injection system for internal combustion engines is proposed which serves the purpose of fuel injection into the air intake tube of the engine. The fuel injection system includes a fuel injection valve, which is supported upstream of a throttle valve in a holder body disposed coaxially in the air intake tube. A fuel supply line leads to the fuel injection valve, extending in a downwardly directed manner toward the fuel injection valve and away from a deaeration chamber. A fuel return line leads away from the fuel injection valve, extending in an upwardly inclined direction to discharge into the regulating chamber, disposed at a higher level, of a pressure regulating valve. A fuel feed line originating at a fuel supply pump terminates in an upwardly directed manner into the dearation chamber, which communicates via a dearation nozzle with the regulating chamber, so that vapor bubbles can escape upstream of the injection valve into the return side of the injection valve.

Fuel injection system

In flow rate meters with a ceramic substrate extending into a flow opening and having at least one temperature-dependent resistor film, there is the danger that excessive acceleration forces from a fall or from an impact will break the ceramic substrate. There is also the danger of destruction of the ceramic substrate from being unintentionally touched by an object or a finger. To increase the protection of the ceramic substrate against breakage, a reinforcing element is provided on a first housing half, protruding into the flow opening over a portion of the ceramic substrate and being glued to the ceramic substrate in the same manner as the first housing half. Protective ribs protrude from the housing halves into the flow opening in the direction of the ceramic substrate and prevent unintentional contact with the ceramic substract by objects or fingers. The flow rate meter is suitable for measuring the flow rate of the aspirated air in internal combustion engines.

Flow rate meter

When an air flow rate meter is used in the intake tube of internal combustion engines, such a meter typically having a flat substrate with at least one resistor film disposed on it, the problem arises of dirt deposits on the substrate end face facing into the flow, which cause undesirable changes in the characteristic curve compared with the calibrated new state of the air flow rate meter. The novel embodiment of the air flow rate member is intended to enable calibration based on conditions expected in practice. To produce the effect, while the air flow rate meter is new, of long-term soiling of an air flow rate meter substrate over a period of operation, a leading body, for instance shaped as a U, is disposed on the end face of the substrate facing into the flow. The leading body simulates a soiled effect while the air flow rate meter is still new, and this effect is taken into account in the calibration. The leading body may be of electrically conductive plastic or lacquer and may be connected to a ground line (15). The air flow rate meter is quite generally suitable for measuring flowing media.

An apparatus for determining the flow rate of a flowing medium having a substrate as a carrier and a resistor arrangement disposed on the substrate which among other elements includes a layer-like measuring resistor (R.sub.H) as well as a likewise layer-like heating resistor (R.sub.S), the heating output of which is regulated such that the measuring resistor (R.sub.H) has a constant temperature, the heating output of the heating resistor (R.sub.S) being a standard for the flow rate of the flowing medium. The surface area of (R.sub.S) is greater than the surface area of (R.sub.H) and extends farther toward a fastening of the substrate, in order to prevent a flow of heat out of the vicinity of the measuring resistor (R.sub.H). The measuring resistor (R.sub.H) and the heating resistor (R.sub.S) are located on the downstream portion of the substrate, on a lip set off by a slit. With this disposition of the measuring resistor (R.sub.H), soiling of the substrate affects the measurement result only slightly.

Apparatus for determining the flow rate of a flowing medium

A fuel injection system for internal combustion engines with multiple fuel injection valves. The fuel injection system includes a dimensionally stable fuel manifold distributor with nipple plug connections, by means of which the fuel is directed to the individual injection valves. The fuel manifold distributor is disposed over the injection valves and is pitched with respect to the horizontal, with a fuel injection connection located at the lowest point of said manifold and connected to the pressure side of a fuel pump, with a return line connection provided at the highest point of the fuel manifold distributor leading to a return flow line, over which a portion of the fuel may be redirected to a pressure regulator and from there to the suction side of a fuel tank to which the fuel pump is connected. The fuel manifold distributor design described here makes it possible for the vapor lock bubbles that are formed to enter the return flow line after the hot internal combustion engine has been switched off, and to be directed to the suction side of the fuel pump when said internal combustion engine is restarted, thus making it possible to avoid problems in starting.

An injection valve for preparing fuel injected into an intake tube of an internal combustion engine and an injection valve for performing the method are proposed. The injection valve includes a movable valve element, which cooperates with a fixed valve seat, downstream of which the fuel reaches fuel guide bores inclined relative to the valve axis and this fuel discharges into a preparation bore at a distance (a) on the bottom from the wall. The fuel flowing via the fuel guide bores at first exits freely from the discharge openings of the fuel guide bores into the preparation bore and subsequently arrives at the wall of the preparation bore, from where it flows in the form of a film, distributed over the wall, toward the open end of the preparation bore and is ejected into the aspirated air of the internal combustion engine.

Method for preparing fuel and injection valve for performing the method

An injection valve for fuel injection devices for internal combustion engines which serves to inject fuel into the intake pipe. The injection valve consists of a valve body with a valve seat cooperating with the sealing part of a valve needle. The valve needle is guided by guide sections in a guide bore of the valve body. The guide section immediately adjoining the sealing part simultaneously serves as a metering section for metering the fuel. For this purpose axially extending surfaces are disposed on the metering section, which form throttling metering openings together with the guide bore. By metering the fuel upstream from the valve seat, impairment of the fuel metering because of deposits formed by reaction of harmful materials from the intake pipe is avoided.

Injection valve

An electromagnetically actuatable valve, especially an injection valve for fuel injection systems which supply internal combustion engines with fuel, is proposed in which the fuel injection valve encompasses a valve chamber and a core upon which a magnetic coil is mounted by means of a carrier body. Fuel supply openings discharge into a flow passage provided around the magnetic coil. Vapor bubbles dissolved in the fuel may be flushed out of the flow passage via a first restriction into fuel return openings which communicate with a fuel return line. On the other hand, the fuel may flow from the flow passage into the collecting chamber which houses a valve component and a valve seat. Vapor bubbles which may appear near the valve component may be flushed out via a second restriction which is provided in the interior of a core to reach the fuel return openings. Thus, disturbances with fuel injection, especially during the 'hot start' of the internal combustion engine, are avoided.

Electromagnetically actuatable valve, in particular a fuel injection

A fuel injection valve is proposed for fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines, which serves to supply fuel into the intake tubes of the engine. The injection valve includes a movable valve element which cooperates with a fixed valve seat. Downstream of the valve seat a bore is provided in the valve body. A charge controlling device in the form of an insert having a section having axially extending flutes thereon is pressed into the bore. The insert has a section on its end away from the fixed valve seat that functions as a metering section. The metering section has a diameter smaller than the internal diameter of the bore, with the metering of fuel taking place in the space thus provided. A diversion means downstream of the charge controlling device serves to divert fuel flow from a valve in a radially extending fan-type spray into an intake tube.

A fuel injection valve is proposed for fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines, which serves to supply fuel into the intake tube of the engine. The injection valve includes a movable valve element which cooperates with a fixed valve seat, downstream of which are provided horizontal fuel guidance bores which discharge tangentially into a spin chamber. The spin chamber is disposed so that it widens conically in the flow direction. The fuel guidance bores simultaneously serve as metering bores. The spin chamber causes an axial speed component to be imparted to the fuel entering via the fuel guidance bores. As a result, the dwell time of the metered fuel within the spin chamber is short, and even in the case of quite short injection pulses, the fuel is still sufficiently well prepared.
