System and method to manage external data in a product creation process is provided. The method comprises receiving a first product structure from a central module, storing the first product structure in the data storage system, performing, evaluations on the first product structure and storing results of the evaluations in the data storage system. The results of the evaluations are transmitted to a central module.

Determining the association between data objects may be accomplished using any of a variety of systems and techniques. In particular implementations, a system and technique may have the ability to receive a group of data objects and execute a matching algorithm to determine duplicate data object propositions between the data objects. The system and technique also may have the ability determine whether a data object is a potential duplicate data object and, if a data object is a potential duplicate data object, determine whether the data object is a duplicate data object by examining duplicate data object propositions of a plurality of data objects that are associated with the data object through duplicate data object propositions.

The technique includes defining a stored data set maintained by a first entity to include a locked data set and an unlocked data set, and providing a second entity with access to the stored data set. Collaborative design process

Systems and techniques for providing a master data framework. The framework receives user input and automatically generates, in accordance with the input, a persistent definition of a business object type. The input can be simple declarations and need not be provided in any particular programming language. Definitions generated by the framework adhere to a same data model, regardless of the business object type they are defining. The framework allows the user to create a definition of a business object type by associating two or more definitions of other business object types. The framework provides services that can be applied, without further customization, to any definition of business object types generated by the framework. The technique includes defining a secondary data set in a primary data set, linking the secondary data set to state information of the primary data set, transmitting the secondary data set to an external entity, receiving a modified secondary data set from the external entity and linking the modified secondary data set to a version of the primary data set stored with reference to state the information. The state information defines the state of the primary data set at the time the secondary data set is defined. The link between the modified secondary data set and the primary data set allows access by a user of a modified primary data set if the primary data set has changed with reference to the state information.

Systems and techniques for application development performed independently of system landscape. In one general aspect, the invention provides a computer-implemented method that includes receiving, from a registry for two or more repositories, information describing an object definition of a first repository of the two or more repositories. The first repository is a collection of object definitions associated with a first application. The method includes using the information to generate a proxy for the object definition and storing the proxy in a second repository of the two or more repositories. The proxy is a reference to the object definition of the first repository. The second repository is a collection of definitions associated with a second application. Wherein the proxy is available to the second application for use as though the proxy is an object definition of the second repository.

Application development performed independent of system landscape

Proliferation of duplicative master data in a master data server is prevented. Data is received from a first client computer system at a master data server that includes a data store for master data used by the first client computer system and a second client computer system. Preliminary tests are run to determine whether the data received from the first client computer system are duplicative of master data in the data store. The received data are in the data store as master data and distributed to the second client computer system if the preliminary tests do not determine that the received data are duplicative of master data in the data store. Additional tests are run after distribution of the received data to the second client computer system to determine whether the data received from the first client computer system are duplicative of master data in the data store.

Central master data management

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for distributing data. In one aspect, a computer program product includes instructions. The instructions can be operable to cause a processor to perform operations. The operations can include receiving historical distribution information for a data assembly and determining if distribution of at least a portion of a current version of the data assembly to a target component is warranted based on the historical distribution information. The historical distribution information can identify one or more components that have previously received some version of the data assembly. The product can be tangibly stored on a computer-readable medium.

Distributing data

Change-driven replication includes determining in a first replication data included in a collection of business master data by performing an explosion of the collection of business master data and transmitting the data to be replicated from a central data system to one or more target data systems, determining which data included in the collection of business master data has changed since the first replication by exploding only the changed data, replicating only the changed data in a second replication, and transmitting the changed data from the central data system to at least one of the target data systems.

A method of enhancing the quality of data stored in a system includes receiving data from a first data enterer, accepting data received from the first data enterer into the system if the data are entered in a format compliant with a first set of rules, receiving first additional data from a second data enterer, the first additional data being related to the data received from the first data enterer, and accepting first additional data received from the second data enterer into the system if the data are entered in a format compliant with a second set of rules.
