A method for allocating resources to applications in a distributed datacenter based on generated contact lists is described. The method includes, receiving, by a first resource manager, a placement request, which identifies resources needed for execution of an application; determining a policy associated with the application; generating a first contact list for the first resource manager based on the determined policy for the application; and searching resources in the distributed datacenter, based on the first contact list, to attempt to meet the identified resources of the placement request.

Adaptive application assignment to distributed cloud resources

A method for placement of processes in a distributed datacenter is described. The method includes receiving, by a first placement node, a placement request corresponding to a process; determining a load estimation for resources managed by the first placement node and a demand estimation for the process based on a process execution profile for the process; determining whether the placement request can be fulfilled with the resources managed by the first placement node based on the demand estimation of the process and the load estimation of the resources managed by the first placement node; executing the process with the resources managed by the first placement node in response to determining that the placement request can be fulfilled with the resources managed by the first placement node; generating an intermediate score based on the execution; and updating a performance score of the process execution profile based on the intermediate score.

Process placement in a cloud environment based on automatically optimized placement policies and process execution profiles

An apparatus and a method for selectively migrating data of a virtualized network function (VNF) instance from a first administrative domain to a second administrative domain. The data used within a single process of the VNF instance within the first administrative domain is read. The read data comprises marked data and non-marked data. The marked data is overwritten by anonymous data according to a pre-configured policy. The data, comprising said anonymous data and said non-marked data, is transferred to the second administrative domain. The present disclosure allows determining which areas within a process need to be protected.

Method and arrangement for selectively migrating data of a virtualized network function

A method and a first node for managing transmission of at least one probe message for detection of failure of a second node are disclosed. A network comprises the first and second nodes. The first node receives a message about an event related to the second node. The message comprises an identifier of the second node and an event type of the event. The first node retrieves at least one policy for failure detection based on the event type. The first node modifies a probe list based on said at least one policy with respect to the second node. The probe list indicates an order in which nodes, neighbouring to the first node, are to be probed by transmission of the probe messages thereto. The second node is one of the nodes neighbouring to the first node. The first node transmits the probe messages according to the probe list.

Method and first node for managing transmission of probe messages

A processor implemented method for monitoring the performance of a message queue for communication between processes is described. The method includes, by an initiating process, publishing a trigger message to a first topic in the message queue, wherein the trigger message identifies one or more performance metrics and at least two processes that communicate via the message queue. The method further includes, by one or more of the at least two processes, retrieving the trigger message from the first topic in the message queue; performing a measurement on one or more messages exchanged between the processes over the message queue, wherein the measurement determines the one or more performance metrics; and publishing the one or more determined performance metrics to a second topic in the message queue. The method also includes, at a receiving process, retrieving the published performance metrics from the second topic in the message queue.

Message queue performance monitoring

Mechanisms for path continuity determination in an aggregate flow environment. An ingress node and a downstream node for which a path continuity check is desired are determined. The ingress node devolves, from an aggregate flow entry, one or more microflows that comprise packets which are destined for the downstream node. The downstream node is directed to generate corresponding microflows. Each microflow is associated with a continuity set identifier and has one or more timers, such as an idle timer and/or a hard timeout timer. Upon timeout of one of the timers, the ingress node and the downstream node send a microflow termination message that contains the continuity set identifier to a controller node. The controller node determines a path continuity status between the ingress node and the downstream node based on a receipt of one or more microflow termination messages from the ingress node and the downstream node.

Path continuity determination in an aggregate flow environment

Communication of a module to a datapath node is disclosed. A controller node receives connection information identifying a first datapath node in communication with a network. The controller node obtains Operations, Administration, and Management (OAM) information including an OAM action set that identifies one or more OAM actions the first datapath node is capable of implementing at the first datapath node. A first OAM tool module is determined that is operative to perform at least one of the one or more OAM actions identified in the OAM action set to implement a first OAM tool function. The first OAM tool module is communicated to the first datapath node.

Operations, administration, and management (OAM) functions in a software defined network

Mechanisms for devolving microflows from aggregate flows are disclosed. An ingress node receives a packet that matches an aggregate flow entry in a flow table. A determination that a devolve action is associated with the aggregate flow entry is made. Based on the determination that the devolve action is associated with the aggregate flow entry, a microflow flow entry is generated in the flow table to define a microflow. The microflow flow entry includes header information extracted from the packet. Microflow generation information that identifies the microflow is sent to a controller node. It is determined that the microflow has timed out based on an idle timeout period of time. In response to determining that the microflow has timed out, microflow termination information that includes path measurement metric information associated with the microflow is sent to the controller node.

Automated flow devolvement in an aggregate flow environment

Mechanism for implementing energy efficiency (EE) policies on flows in a software defined network are disclosed. A controller node receives from each of a plurality of datapath nodes, a corresponding set of EE actions that the respective datapath node is capable of implementing. A flow is identified, and a group of datapath nodes through which the flow is routed is identified. Based on an attribute of the flow, an EE policy is determined. Based on the EE policy, a datapath node in the group of datapath nodes is directed to perform an EE action on packets associated with the flow.
