A connecting rod for an internal combustion engine may include a connecting rod shank, a large connecting rod eye, and a small connecting rod eye with a pin bore. An end face of the small connecting rod eye may also include at least one overhang, the overhang running parallel to a central axis of the pin bore over its entire width transverse to the central axis of the pin bore. An edge of the overhang may also run parallel to the central axis of the pin bore.

The aim of the invention is to create a hub bore shape that is improved compared to prior art in order to significantly reduce mechanical stress in the piston and thus extend the service life of the piston. The invention relates to a combustion recess in the head of a piston for a diesel engine, the piston being provided with a cooling duct optionally existing in the form of a cooled ring carrier. This combustion recess has, in the radially outer edge area, an undercut which is formed such that the radially outer delimitation of the combustion recess is situated sufficiently near the cooling duct so that the cooling duct has a cooling effect upon the combustion recess.

The invention relates to a method for coating piston rings () for internal combustion engines, wherein at least the bearing surface of the piston ring is provided with an anti-abrasion and anti-corrosion coating () by means of a PVD or electroplating process. According to said method, the anti-abrasion and anti-corrosion coating is prevented from flaking or cracking caused by strain occurring on the piston ring during the operation of the motor by means of the following steps: a) coating parameters are set; b) an uncoated piston ring () is pre-stressed in order to obtain a predetermined diameter () thereof or opening width (); an ion coating process is carried out using coating parameters according to step a); the internal stress of the anti-abrasion or anti-corrosion coating () is measured in state (b); e) a new, uncoated piston ring () is subjected to tensile pre-stressing or compressive strain according to the measured internal tension of the coating; and f) the piston ring is coated () according to the coating parameters according to step a).
