A machine for folding a side gas bag for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises a guide channel in which a gas bag to be folded can be disposed, and first and second folding tongues. The folding tongues have teeth and the guide channel has a first side part and a second side part in each of which several recesses are provided. The teeth of the folding tongues are able to engage into the recesses.

Apparatus and method for folding a gas bag

In a folded gas bag for a vehicle occupant restraint system the folded gas bag comprises two superimposed walls of the gas bag laid in folds and the folded gas bag is delimited by imaginary first and second fold edge regions. The fold edges of the folds extend in a straight line and parallel to one another. The folds have fold heights measured from one of the fold edge regions and at least two differing fold heights are provided.

Gas bag

A method for transferring a gas bag for a vehicle occupant restraint system into a mounting provided for the gas bag comprises the following steps: First, the gas bag is folded. Then, the gas bag is heated. Subsequently, the folded gas bag is pressed and simultaneously cooled. Finally, the gas bag is fastened in the mounting.
