A diffusion-cooled CO.sub.2 stripline laser having reduced ignition voltage is provided. In order to facilitate the ignition of the stripline laser, an auxiliary discharge path is provided which is formed either by segmentation of the HF electrode or by at least one auxiliary electrode that is arranged along the electrode surface and adjacent to the discharge path.

A stripline laser has its HF voltage distribution optimized by grounding springs. A grounded electrode is connected to an outside wall with electrically conductive connector elements, and is preferably connected thereto at a plurality of locations along its axial extent.

An HF-excited laser for high input powers, particularly a CO.sub.2 stripline laser, is provided. For supply of a high-power HF energy, a matching unit is integrated into the laser. The matching unit contains an L-C element, whereby the inductance L and the capacitance C are variable. The inductance can be set by a variation of the length of the electrically conductive parts of an HF feed and of an HF tap. The capacitor is annularly designed and the capacitance is defined by the size of a capacitor wafer and by the properties of the dielectric.

To improve the mechanical properties of a contact unit of a vacuum relay, a spring element is integrated into the contact unit. The contact unit comprises an armature, a mounting support for an insulating carrier, the insulating carrier and a switching contact. The mounting support comprises a flat bar spring such that the contact unit has an integrated spring element.

High-frequency-excited laser for high input powers, particularly a CO.sub.2 stripline laser. For supplying high-power high-frequency energy to a laser, a matching unit (2) for the impedance is integrated in the laser, whereby the matching unit (2) contains a L-C element, whereby the inductance L and the capacitance C are variable, whereby the inductance can be set on the basis of variation of the length of the voltaicly conductive parts of a high-frequency feed and of a high-frequency conductance, whereby the capacitor is constructed of an outer conductor (10) and of an inner conductor (3) coaxial thereto, and whereby a coaxial slide ring (27) externally movable in an axial direction is in communication with the outer conductor (10). The slide ring (27) adjoins a dielectric cylinder (28) between the outer conductor (10) and the inner conductor (3), the outer conductor (10) carrying the inner conductor (3). The high-frequency-excited laser is provided for CO.sub.2 stripline lasers.

To improve the high voltage strength of conductor bushings on an insulating housing structure, the outer surface of the housing structure is depressed all around the bushing aperture and is provided with a metallization within this depressed region. The conductor which is passed through is preferably fixed into position with a holding element, which consists of a tapered tubular piece having an annular base resting on the depressed surface and a collar-type neckpiece contacting the lead contact wire.

Electrically pumped gas laser suitable for high input power. In such an electrically pumped gas laser suitable for high input power, damage in the region of the vacuum bushing for feeding electrical power to an electrode that can arise as a consequence of the heating of the feeder during operation is avoided in that the feeder is fashioned as a tube and proceeds through an insulating busing and in that this tube is permeated by coolant. The invention is suitable for gas lasers, particularly slab or stripline lasers.
