A control and/or regulating system of a machine for making a fibrous web, such as a paper and/or cardboard web, is provided. The system includes a plurality of actuators, each assigned to at least one final control element, for varying certain properties of the fibrous web to be made. The actuators form intelligent participants in a decentralized communications hardware structure in which they are coupled to one another via a closed pipeline ring and/or a local area network.

Control and/or regulating system for a machine used for producing a fiber web

Device and process for controlling or regulating a basis weight of a web in a web manufacturing process of a web producing machine. The device includes a first control circuit, adapted to adjust the basis weight, that includes at least one adjustable device for influencing the basis weight and at least one basis weight sensor. A second control circuit having at least one sensor for detecting a concentration of incoming backwater is also provided. The process includes measuring the basis weight of the material web, adjusting the basis weight of the web with a first control device having at least one device for influencing the basis weight, detecting a retention change in a second control circuit, and counteracting the retention change by influencing a concentration of a stock suspension placed one of onto a wire and between wires.

Process for controlling or regulating the basis weight of a paper or cardboard web

Apparatus and process for determining the properties of a material web. The apparatus includes at least one radiation source, and at least one detection device adapted to detect radiation emitted from the at least one radiation source that at least one of penetrates and is reflected by the material web. The detection device can include at least one detection area unevenly divided into a plurality of individual sensors. Further, the material web can be a paper web. A publication distribution system and, more specifically, a computer operated feedback control system for controlling a process such as a paper-making process includes an effective common data base to which Publisher and Subscriber means are connected. An actual Publisher and Subscriber data base allows for a once only subscription to link subscriber means to a selected publisher for transfer of only updated or changed data from the original. Thus, only changed data is transferred across a network and computational load is reduced significantly. In the specific context of the present invention, the Publisher may be a scanning sensor for basis weight of paper being manufactured by a paper-making machine and a Subscriber may be an actuator such as a headbox control unit.

A method for determining the effect of an adjustment of actuators used in the manufacture of web of material which are arranged spatially over the width of the web and influence the properties of the web of material, the method being characterized by the fact that, upon the adjustment of one actuator, a prediction as to the effect of the adjustment of the actuator which is derived from detection values on the behavior of the cross section of the property of the web upon the change of actuators is made; that at least one cross section of a property of the web is measured before and after the adjustment of the actuators; that the prediction as to the effect of the actuator adjustments is compared with the measured effect; and that the existing detection values are modified until better agreement is obtained between predicted effect and measured effect.
