Creation or update of a security context between user equipment and MSC/VLR (Mobile Switching Center/Visitor Location Register) for circuit switched domain services is provided. The creation or update is based on conversion of the security context used in an evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) in the Mobility Management Entity (MME) to a security context for the circuit switched domain target system and transferring it to a MSC/VLR. When user equipment is moved from E-UTRAN to GSM EDGE Radio Access Network/Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (GERAN/UTRAN), a MME does not need to perform authentication and key agreement procedures to establish shared circuit switched security context for the user equipment.

Shared security context

Creation of update of a security context between user equipment and MSC/VLR (Mobile Switching Centre/Visitor Location Register) for circuit switched domain services is provided. The creation or update is based on conversion of the security context used in an evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) in the Mobility Management Entity (MME) to a security context for the circuit switched domain target system and transferring it to a MSC/VLR. When user equipment is moved from E-UTRAN to GSM EDGE Radio Access Network/Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (GERAN/UTRAN), a MME does not need to perform authentication and key agreement procedures to establish shared circuit switched security context for the user equipment.

Shared circuit switched security context

A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided in which a user equipment performs an inter-radio access technology (RAT) mobility procedure from a first network to a second network while idle mode signaling reduction (ISR) is active, locally deactivates ISR in connection with completion of the inter-RAT mobility procedure, and initiates a location management procedure in the second network. Depending on the respective type of the first and second network, and the connection state of the UE with respect to the first network, the mobility procedure may be performed in response to a mobility command received from the first network, or in response to a mobility condition of the first network as detected by the UE.

Connected mode mobility between radio access networks

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for wireless communications. The method generally includes attempting, by a machine type communication (MTC) device, an attach procedure in order to detect a triggering request from an MTC server.

A UE camped or connected to a GERAN or UTRAN network may be configured to move, either directly or through network-controlled functions, to an LTE network to perform a data call. The UE may then return to a 2G/3G network.

Systems and methods for inter-radio access technology (RAT) mobility

A system is provided for transmitting information through a speech codec (in-band) such as found in a wireless communication network. A modulator transforms the data into a spectrally noise-like signal based on the mapping of a shaped pulse to predetermined positions within a modulation frame, and the signal is efficiently encoded by a speech codec. A synchronization sequence provides modulation frame timing at the receiver and is detected based on analysis of a correlation peak pattern. A request/response protocol provides reliable transfer of data using message redundancy, retransmission, and/or robust modulation modes dependent on the communication channel conditions.

System and method of an in-band modem for data communications over digital wireless communication networks

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate inter-system handover in a wireless communication system. Various aspects described herein provide for handover techniques that enable a target system to be prepared by a mobile device via a source system in order to minimize specific changes required to source system and/or target system. Techniques are described herein in which the radio link of a source system can be utilized to tunnel signaling messages which are in a format understood by a destination node in a target system. Further, fast inter-access handover can be facilitated by establishing a simple generic transmission tunnel between respective network nodes in source and target systems that handle intra-system mobility and providing a Layer 2 (L2) tunneling mechanism over the radio interface of each involved system technology.

Method and apparatus for fast inter-system handover

Detecting an acknowledgment signal sent from a destination terminal at a source terminal in an in-band communication system is disclosed. A first synchronization sequence followed by a low layer acknowledgement message and a second synchronization sequence followed by a high layer acknowledgement message is detected.

Methods, apparatus and computer program products are provided to improve the efficiency of resource allocation in wireless communication networks. In one provided embodiment, a wireless communication device determines a received signal strength of each of a number of signals received from a number of transmission sectors, provides first channel information for first signals including a signal having a highest received signal strength and signals having a received signal strength above a specified level relative to the highest received signal strength, provides second channel information for second signals including signals having a received signal strength below the specified level, and receives an allocation of one or more resource blocks from assigned transmission sectors based on a ranking of the first channel information, whereby the one or more resource blocks are reallocated to another wireless communication device, from another transmission sector, based on the second channel information. Resource block reuse for coordinated multi-point transmission

Techniques for transmitting data in a manner to support multi-user scheduling, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission, and interference cancellation are described. A base station assigns multiple time segments of a transmission time interval (TTI) to at least one terminal, maps data for each terminal to at least one time segment assigned to the terminal, and spreads the data in each time segment with at least one channelization code used in the TTI. A terminal receives an assignment of at least one time segment from among multiple time segments of the TTI, obtains input samples for the at least one time segment, and despreads the input samples with the at least one channelization code used in the TTI.
