The invention describes an apparatus for cooling and calibrating an extruded plastic profile () with a cooling tank () receiving a cooling liquid, with calibrating elements () disposed within the cooling tank () for the plastic profile () subjected to the cooling liquid, and with a draw-off device () which is disposed downstream of the cooling tank () in the draw-off direction of the plastic profile (). In order to provide advantageous constructional conditions it is proposed that at least one damping device () is provided between the inlet-sided calibrating element () of the cooling tank () and the draw-off device (), which damping device rests at least in sections in the zone of one circumference on the plastic profile ().

An apparatus for cooling and calibrating and extruded plastic profile ( ) is described, with a cooling tank ( ) which receives a cooling liquid ( ) and can be charged with a pressure below atmospheric, and with at least one calibrating device ( ) arranged within the cooling tank ( ) for the plastic profile ( ) pulled through the cooling tank ( ), with the calibrating device ( ) being composed of individual parts extending in the direction of passage of the plastic profile ( ). In order in to provide advantageous construction conditions it is proposed that the parts of the calibrating device ( ) form calibrating elements ( ) which are distributed over the circumference of the plastic profile ( ) by leaving out gaps ( ) for the passage of cooling liquid.

In order to enable the thorough mixture of a melt flow S made of plastic, and polyvinyl chloride in particular, with the lowest possible amount of damage and the adequate homogenization thereof, the melt flow S is divided into partial flows T, which partial flows T are twisted independently from one another about axes extending in the direction of flow and are thereafter joined again into a common melt flow S.

Device for calibrating cooling of an extruded synthetic profile

This invention is directed to an extruded thermoplastic, thin-walled, high definition profile structure having a central hollow cross sectional member with at least two flange members extending perpendicularly therefrom and longitudinally therewith wherein at least one flange member extends from one side of the cross sectional member and at least one flange member extends from the other side thereof. Preferably, there are three flange members extending from one side forming channel-like recesses and one flange extending from the other side of the cross sectional member. Also included herein are particular thermoplastic resins that can be employed in making the profile structure of this invention. For example, the profile can be a composite comprising a substrate of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene and a thin outer layer of polyvinyl chloride or a blend of polyvinyl chloride and acrylic-styrene-acrylonitrile. The profile of this invention is suitable as frames for openings in buildings, particularly frames for windows, doors and the like.
