A process for preparing an aqueous polymer dispersion, the process including forming a copolymer A from at least one &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-monoethylenically unsaturated Cto Cmonocarboxylic acid (monomers A1) and at least one other monoethylenically unsaturated compound (monomers A2); reacting the copolymer A with a metal compound M in an aqueous medium; and conducting free-radical polymerization of at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound (monomer P) in the presence of the copolymer A in an aqueous medium.

The invention relates to oil-in-water emulsions based on fatty alcohols and mono- or diesters of glycerol and the use thereof as antifoams or deaerators for aqueous compositions. The oil phase of the emulsions according to the invention consists to at least 95% by weight of the following constituents: a) 40 to 95% by weight, based on the total weight of the oil phase, of a mixture of at least two alcohols as component A, consisting of: a1) at least one alkanol having 12 to 30 carbon atoms as component A1, a2) at least one mono- or diester of glycerol with at least one fatty acid having 14 to 24 carbon atoms as component A2; b) 0.1 to 10% by weight, based on the total weight of the oil phase, of at least one further component B, which is selected from esters of C-C-alkanecarboxylic acids with polyglycerol, amides of C-C-alkanecarboxylic acids with alkylenediamines or oligoalkyleneamines, and esters of C-C-alkanecarboxylic acids with C-C-alkanols, and mixtures thereof, c) 4.9 to 50% by weight, based on the total weight of the oil phase, of at least one further component C, which is selected from organic substances which are liquid at 50&#xb0; C. and 1013 mbar, at atmospheric pressure have a boiling point above 200&#xb0; C., and at 25&#xb0; C. and 1013 mbar have a solubility in water of less than 0.1 g/l.

Oil-in-water emulsions

The use of a nondendrimeric hyperbranched polyester and/or a polyesteramide which comprise alkenyl-substituted succinic acid units as a demulsifier for splitting oil-water emulsions. The succinic acid is substituted by at least one alkenyl group containing from 16 to 20 carbon atoms. Particular emulsions suitable for splitting are crude oil emulsions. Also, a nondendrimeric hyperbranched polyester or a polyesteramide which comprises alkenyl-substituted succinic acid units, the alkenyl group having from 16 to 20 carbon atoms. In addition to the alkenyl-substituted succinic acid units, the nondendrimeric hyperbranched polyester contains, as further units, at least trifunctional alcohols having been alkoxylated with an average of from 3 to 12 ethylene oxide units.

Use of hyperbranched polyesters and/or polyester amides for separating oil-in-water emulsions

A nondendrimeric hyperbranched polyester and/or polyesteramide which comprise alkenyl-substituted succinic acid units as demulsifiers for splitting oil-water emulsions, especially crude oil emulsions. In particular, the succinic acid is substituted with alkenyl groups containing 16 to 20 carbon atoms. Also, nondendrimeric hyperbranched polyesters or polyesteramides which comprise alkenyl-substituted succinic acid units, wherein the alkenyl group has from 16 to 20 carbon atoms. In addition to the alkenyl-substituted succinic acid units, the nondendrimeric hyperbranched polyester contains, as further units, at least trifunctional alcohols having been alkoxylated with an average of from 3 to 12 ethylene oxide units.

Described is the use of synthetic adhesives in the manufacture of corrugated fiberboard at relatively low temperatures and high lineal speeds. The corrugated fiberboard includes a corrugated sheet of paper and a flat linerboard and the corrugation of the corrugated sheet of paper is produced at paper temperatures below 95&#xb0; C. and at a lineal speed above 150 m/min. The production of the corrugation of a corrugated sheet of paper is immediately followed by a continuous operation in which a preferably unheated corrugated board adhesive is applied and the corrugated sheet of paper is adhered to at least one first linerboard. The corrugated board adhesive used is an aqueous adhesive dispersion based on at least one synthetic, dispersed polymer having preferably more than 40% by weight solids content, selected from acrylate copolymers, copolymers of vinylaromatics and conjugated aliphatic dienes and vinyl acetate-alkylene copolymers, wherein the glass transition temperatures of the polymers are above 20&#xb0; C. and (preferably at least 5&#xb0; C.) below the surface temperature of the corrugated sheet of paper to which they are applied.
