A method and apparatus for a very exact correction of the thickness profile of strip rolled in a multi-stand hot strip mill. A measuring device determines the distribution of tensions in the cross-section of the strip (19). The measuring values are processed in a computer (32) to manipulated variables for a swinging or tilting device and a roll bending device (42). The roll bending device (42) is installed at the end of a hot strip mill train, and one or several roll swinging or tilting devices with measuring devices are provided, as seen in rolling direction, before the roll bending device (42).

Apparatus for correcting the thickness profile of a strip to be rolled

A method and an apparatus are disclosed for equalizing the temperature of hot steel strip traveling from a preliminary rolling mill to a final rolling mill, equalization to be effected both lengthwise and transversely of the steel strip. To achieve this purpose the lateral edge portions of the steel strip are partially covered by heat reflectors which are spaced from and adjustable relative to them.

Method of, and apparatus for, effecting temperature-equalization of hot

A loop lifter for continuous strip rolling mills has an arm which is journalled in a support for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis. An end portion of the arm carries a freely turnable roll which can engage a loop from below and lift it upwardly. A counter balancing spring reacts between a fixed pivot and the arm and assures that the pivot shaft for the arm is not subject to any free torque during pivoting movement of the arm between 0.degree. and 90.degree. of arc.

Loop lifter

An arrangement for measuring the flatness or planar degree of metal strips under tensile stress while being rolled, in which measuring rollers are subdivided into roller sections. Measuring elements which may be in the form of strain gages, are held in suspensions having side members which are pivotable about a fixed axis. The side members also support the individual roller sections of the measuring rollers. The measuring elements or strain gages may be fixed in the roller bearings linking the suspension and the measuring rollers. The measuring elements may also be located in a recess of the side members. Each roller section may be provided with a measuring element, and the side members, furthermore, may be connected by rigid joints to a shaft which is reinforced by a rigid box and about which the side members are pivotable. The side members, moreover, may be T-shaped and be hinged to the rigid box, while being force-linked to a cover plate containing a recess for the measuring element. The cover plate is attached to the side of the rigid box.

Device for measuring the flatness of metal strips

A shearing arrangement for cutting moving bars in which two counter-rotating knife drums are rotatable in shear stands. These stands are spaced from each other and are located on a base plate. They are connected to each other above the knife drums by a disconnectable yoke. Both knife drums are mounted directly in the shear stands which are each of single-piece construction. The shear stands are inserted into the base plate and are connected to the base plate by quick-disconnect couplings. The quick-disconnect couplings between the shear stands and the base plate may be in the form of press rods, and the base plate may have lateral inclined guide surfaces or prisms for the shear stands. The knife drum is connected to its drive by an easily disengageable coupling which has a hydraulically shifted clutch sleeve.

Shearing arrangement

For use in connection with an underground reel in a rolling mill for band-shaped rolling stock, a two-roll driving device, with an upper driving roll and a lower driving roll which are arranged one above the other. When looking in the direction in which the rolling stock enters the reel, the axle of the upper driving roll is during the entry of the start of the rolling stock into the reel located behind the axle of the lower driving roll and after the start of the band-shaped rolling stock has been grasped by the winding mandrel of the reel the upper driving roll is pivotable into a position vertically above the axle of the lower driving roll, while behind the lower driving roll there is provided a deviating device for the band-shaped rolling stock. The upper driving roll is journalled in a stand which is pivotable about the axis of the lower driving roll and adjustable relative to the latter. A frame supporting the pivotable stand has arranged thereon a horizontally displaceable deviating flap which is movably connected to the stand.

An arrangement for cooling hot rolled steel bands reeled into coils, according to which the rolling hot steel band after having been rolled into coils are cooled in a liquid bath.

Device for cooling band coils in hot rolling strip mills

An intake device for a band rolling mill, which includes an upper driving roller and a lower driving roller adjustable relative to each other and forming with each other a bite into which the band to be rolled is fed by the driven rollers of a lower roller bed and the driven rollers of an upper roller bed while both roller beds form with each other a wedge-shaped feeding funnel pointing toward the bite formed by the upper and lower driving rollers. The angle which the upper and lower roller beds form with each other is variable at will.
