Novel isoindoline colorants of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1 is phenyl or 1-naphthyl, which are unsubstituted or substituted by groups which do not confer solubility, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, independently of one another, are C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl or benzyl or R.sup.3 is hydrogen and R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl or benzyl, or is phenyl or 1-naphthyl which are unsubstituted or substituted by groups which do not confer solubility, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 being identical or different, and the use of these colorants. In surface coatings, printing inks and plastics, the products give brilliant yellow to red colorations, which exhibit very good lightfastness and fastness to weathering, and good fastness to overcoating.

Uniformly dyed water-swellable cellulosic fibers which have been produced by contacting water-swellable cellulosic fibers successively or simultaneously with water, with ethylene glycol, propylene glycol or derivatives of these and with an essentially water-insoluble dye of the formula ##STR1## where Y is unsubstituted or substituted phenyl or naphthyl or an unsubstituted or substituted saturated or unsaturated 5-membered or 6-membered heterocyclic radical, two of the three radicals X are hydroxyl and the remaining radical X is ##STR2## where A is chlorine, bromine, cyano, nitro, an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical and n is 0, 1, 2 or 3 and where, if n&gt;1, the radicals are identical or different. Deep reddish blue to green dyeings or prints are obtained. The dyeings have very good fastness characteristics.

Uniformly dyed water-swellable cellulosic fibers

Aqueous dye formulations which contain one or more sparingly water-soluble, or water-insoluble, phthalocyanine-sulfonamides of the formula ##STR1## where A is a (n+m)-valent radical of copper phthalocyanine, cobalt phthalocyanine or nickel phthalocyanine which may be substituted by up to 4 chlorine or bromine atoms, R is hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 5 carbon atoms or alkoxyalkyl of a total of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, R.sup.1 is a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical, or ##STR2## is a saturated 5-membered or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, X.sup..sym. is H.sup..sym., an alkali metal ion, (NH.sub.4).sup..sym. or ##STR3## (where R and R.sup.1 have the above meanings), n is 2, 3 or 4 and m is 0 or 1, together with one or more conventional dispersing agents and humectants and with or without a disinfectant. The formulations give very fast prints and dyeings on cellulose and on cellulose-containing fibers.

Aqueous dye formulations for cellulose or cellulose-containing fibers

Dye formulations for dyeing or printing cellulose or cellulosic fibrous material which in addition to the usual dispersing agents, water retention agents, disinfectants and water contain dyes devoid of sulfonic acid groups and of the general formula: ##STR1## in which A is an anthraquinonyl, anthrapyrimidone or anthrapyrimidine radical which may bear substituents; X is hydrogen or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical; B is hydrogen or an aliphatic radical; B.sup.1 is an aliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical or the group ##STR2## is a five-membered, six-membered or seven-membered heterocyclic ring; and n is 1 or 2. Dyeings and prints having very good fastness properties and particularly very good fastness to wet treatments and crocking are obtained on cellulose. The dyes contained in the formulations are fixed on swollen cellulosic fibers by heating.

Triazinyl-anthraquinone dye formulations for cellulose or cellulosic

Anthraquinone dyes of the formula ##STR1## where R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkyl, alkoxyalkyl of a total of 3 to 11 carbon atoms, phenoxyalkyl, where alkyl is of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or phenyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl. On synthetic fibers and blends thereof with cellulosic fibers, the dyes give brilliant clear blues. The dyes are particularly suitable for transfer printing onto synthetic fibers and give high color yields. The transfer prints obtained have excellent fastness characteristics.

Anthraquinone dyes

A process for the preparation of 1-amino-8-nitro-4,5-dihydroxyanthraquinone by partially reducing the corresponding dinitrohydroxyanthraquinone and isolating the reduction product, in which crude 1,8-dinitro-4,5-dihydroxyanthraquinone obtained by nitrating 4,5-dihydroxyanthraquinone is partially reduced in a phenol-water mixture, which contains from 5 to 50% by weight of water, in the presence of an alkali metal phenolate, by means of a reductone, reductonate or a mixture of these. The product is virtually free from by-products and is suitable for use for the synthesis of dyes.

Production of virtually pure 1-amino-8-nitro-4,5-dihydroxyanthraquinone

The production of aminonitrodihydroxyanthraquinones of the formula: ##STR1## in which one X is OH and the other X is NO.sub.2 by partial reduction of the corresponding dinitrodihydroxyanthraquinone or mixtures thereof by heating at 80.degree.-250.degree. C in the presence of 1/2 to 5 times the weight thereof of an unsubstituted or substituted phenol. The reduction is accelerated by being carried out in the presence of a small amount such as 0.5-20 mol percent of an alkaline-reacting agent. Pure aminonitrohydroxyanthraquinones are obtained which are free from diaminodihydroxyanthraquinones.

Disperse dyes for linear polyester fibers, said dyes having the formula: ##SPC1## In which R' and R' are alkyl of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, 2-chloroethyl, 2-cyanoethyl, 2-ethoxyethyl, 2-methoxyethyl, 3-methoxypropyl, 3-ethoxypropyl, 3-isopropoxypropyl, 2-phenylethyl, benzyl or phenyl and wherein R' and R' are identical or different and R.sup.2 is methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, 2-ethoxyethyl, 3-ethoxypropyl, 2-methoxyethyl, 3-methoxypropyl, 2-phenylethyl, phenyl, p-chlorophenyl, p-methylphenyl or hydrogen.

Disperse dyes based on isoindolene derivatives

Disperse dyes of the formula: ##SPC1## In which both R's are alkyl, phenyl or phenalkyl (the radical R bearing other substituents if desired) and X is the radical of a methyleneactive compound. The dyes dye fibers of linear polyesters brilliant greenish yellow to bluish red shades.
