A circuit board in a mobile electronic device has a microphone and related amplifier and signal conditioning circuitry mounted thereon. A radio frequency (RF) shield surrounds and isolates the microphone from electromagnetic interference (EMI). The RF shield together with the circuit board forms an acoustic chamber surrounding the microphone. A hole in the RF shield permits acoustic energy to enter the acoustic chamber and reach the microphone.

The present disclosure relates to media players, such as portable electronic devices, vehicle audio systems, home stereo systems, etc. In particular, it relates to the management of the sound pressure level generated by portable electronic devices. A method and system for controlling the consumed audio dose of a user of a media player is described. The method comprises the steps of selecting a first frequency range from the total frequency range relevant for the human ear; of determining the audio dose already consumed by the user within the first frequency range; of evaluating the audio dose of a media track within the first frequency range and the already consumed audio dose of the user within the first frequency range; and of controlling the audio dose generated by the media player based on the evaluating step.

A plug-and-jack for use with an electronic device that is configured to ensure circuitry of the device is protected from electrostatic discharge. In one case, the jack is an audio jack designed to protect high gain circuitry of the device against electrostatic discharge from the leads of an audio plug. The jack includes a mechanical switch that only connects the high gain circuitry to the appropriate portion of the audio plug once the audio plug is fully inserted. At the same time, the mechanical switch also connects the high gain circuitry and corresponding portion of the audio plug to an electrostatic discharge circuit.

The invention concerns an amplifier circuit for an IC whereby continuous symmetrical signal routing can be provided from the inputs to the outputs, without branches and crossovers and at low cost. The IC can be used as amplifier, buffer, line driver and line receiver with a minimum of external wiring. Two operational amplifiers (OA,) and (OA,) are each connected as non-inverting amplifiers and include integrated feedback impedances (RF,, RF,), a joint resistor (R,) for adjusting the differential amplification, and a subtraction stage. According to the invention two complementary, parallel-connected differential amplifiers (DIF,and DIF,) form the subtraction stage, each of which has its own pair of signal outputs (O,/O,or O,/O,) for one differential signal in each case.
