The invention relates to a portable radio remote control transmitter with a splash-proof and dust-tight housing, which accommodates a control unit and comprises an operator control panel with a number of buttons for entering control commands. In order to develop the radio remote control transmitter in such a way that the risk of erroneous operation is reduced, it is proposed according to the invention that at least one button has an associated illuminating element for illuminating the button.

A method for operating a radio remote control system having a transmitting unit and a receiving unit, composed of: following the termination of a radio connection between the transmitting unit and the receiving unit, modifying at least one transmitting or receiving parameter of the transmitting unit or the receiving unit with respect to a standard value in such a way that the establishment of a new radio connection is only possible if the distance between the transmitting unit and the receiving unit does not exceed a predetermined value; and following the establishment of a new radio contact with the modified parameter in effect, resetting the respective parameter to the standard value.

A manual control device composed of: a housing; a joystick; and a joint supporting the joystick in the housing to enable the joystick to pivot about two mutually orthogonal axes relative to the housing. The joint is an elastic molded plastic part composed of an interior portion secured to the joystick, a peripheral portion secured to the housing and a connecting portion extending between, and connecting, the interior portion and the peripheral portion. The interior portion has the form of a first cylinder and the peripheral portion has the form of a second cylinder, the first and second cylinders being concentric with one another when the joystick is in a neutral position. The connecting portion has a frustoconical shape when the joystick is in the neutral position and is stressed when the joystick is pivoted away from the neutral position.

A remote control system, particularly for remotely controlling industrial equipment, has a sensor that detects the operator's safety-relevant medical data and transmits them as a control signal to a control circuit in a transmitter or receiver. The control circuit triggers a predefinable control sequence when the value of the control signal exceeds or falls below at least one predefinable value. A malfunction, especially of the &ldquo;human component&rdquo; of the total system, can be reliably detected as soon as it becomes safety relevant, i.e., as soon as there is a danger that the operator might no longer be able to control the industrial equipment properly and reliably with the remote control system.

A switch for operating an electric device, the switch having a released position in which the device can be switched on or off, and a locked position in which switching on of the device is prevented, in combination with a removable key element including a key insertable into the switch and displaceable for placing the switch in a selected one of the released and locked positions. The switch includes a function element fixedly disposed within the electric device, and an actuating element for switching the electric device on and off, seated on the outside of the device and in operative connection with the function element. The key element is composed of a cap-like slip-on element to which the key is permanently fastened and which is configured to be securely and removably mounted on the actuating element.
