Automated assistance for an action is requested over a self-service network from a Self-Service Terminal (SST). A first approval is received as a token over the self-service network. The action and the token are sent over a secure network from the SST for a second approval. When the second approval is received over the secure network, the action is processed on the SST.

Cross-network action approval

A customer attempts to deposit a check and receives an unacceptable decision. An automated decision process is initiated to evaluate the unacceptable decision based on governmental regulations, transaction details, customer profile information, and/or bank business rules. A new decision is automatically provided to the customer based on the automated decision process's decision.

Automated check deposit decisions

Systems and methods for processing custom structured tags at a self-service terminal are disclosed. Custom structured tags received by a self-service terminal can include information to identify one or more devices attached to the terminal and identify one or more types of data to be obtained from a user by use of the attached devices. In some embodiments, a browser can natively interpret the custom structured tags. The self-service terminal can also be configured to receive and decode structured tags identifying or more actions to be performed by the device, such as printing a transaction record or dispensing currency.

System and method for interacting with a self-service terminal

A Self-Service Terminal (SST) transaction is denied over an SST network. Transaction details for the transaction are sent over a second network to an assistant. The transaction details are evaluated to determine whether to override the transaction on the second network or whether to provide assistance to a customer associated with the transaction to successfully reprocess the transaction at the SST.

Assisted approval of denied self-service transactions

A configuration creator for use in creating a terminal application for a target apparatus. The configuration creator comprises: (i) an indexing routine for examining available software components that can be used in the terminal application and ascertaining possible type-safe relationships for each software component, (ii) a graphical user interface including a control area for displaying classes that can be used in the terminal application, and an association area for creating instances of the displayed classes and allowing type-safe relationships to be established between created instances, and (iii) a file creation routine for creating a configuration file including code describing created instances and relationships established between the created instances. The configuration file can subsequently be parsed to create a terminal application for use in a target apparatus, such as a self-service terminal.

Creating a terminal application

The module may be a printer module () comprising a print engine (), a microcontroller (), and a wireless receiver (), such as a wireless modem, so that the module () is operable to receive data from a remote server () and to print the received data. The module () also includes a coupler (or) for directing data received from the wireless modem () to the microcontroller () and for directing data from the terminal () to the microcontroller (). A method of printing tickets at a terminal () and a method of retro-fitting a self-service terminal () are also described.

Module

The present invention relates to a smart card and to a method of operating the smart card in which the smart card has input/output means enabling the smart card to receive and transmit data regarding individual financial transactions. The smart card has a microprocessor which incorporates a read only memory, a random access memory and input/output ports. The smart card is able to communicate through the ports when suitably positioned within a smart card reader. The internal operations of the smart card are controlled by the microprocessor as determined by program microinstructions that are stored in the read only memory. The microinstructions include a number of application programs enabling the smart card to conduct financial transactions, other related applications and transaction logging operations. The smart card has a secure area and an unsecured area within the random access memory. The microprocessor is programmed to store in the unsecured store area individual transactions which may be automated transactions using the smart card or manual transactions entered as updates into the smart card. The microprocessor is programmed to transfer transactions from the unsecured store area and consolidate them into a consolidated log of transactions in the secured area. As a result, an updated statement of cashflow is available to the user from the consolidated log.
