Spurious signal mitigation for carrier aggregation amplifier

Techniques for routing and shielding signal lines to improve isolation between the signal lines are disclosed. In an exemplary design, an apparatus includes first, second, and third signal lines and a switch. The first, second, and third signal lines are configurable to carry first, second, and third signals, respectively. The switch is coupled between the second signal line and AC ground and is closed when the second signal line is not carrying the second signal. The second signal line isolates the first and third signal lines when the switch is closed. Adjacent signal lines are not active at the same time. A signal line may include positive and negative signal lines, which may have at least one cross over in order to cancel coupling between the positive and negative signal lines.

Amplifiers with multiple outputs and separate gain control per output are disclosed. In an exemplary design, an apparatus (e.g., a wireless device or an integrated circuit) may include first and second amplifier circuits. The first amplifier circuit may receive and amplify an input radio frequency (RF) signal based on a first variable gain and provide a first amplified RF signal. The second amplifier circuit may receive and amplify the input RF signal based on a second variable gain and provide a second amplified RF signal. The input RF signal may include a plurality of transmitted signals being received by the wireless device. The first variable gain may be adjustable independently of the second variable gain. Each variable gain may be set based on the received power level of at least one transmitted signal being received by the wireless device.

Single-input multiple-output amplifiers with independent gain control per output

An apparatus for dividing a frequency by 1.5 to produce a quadrature signal is disclosed. The apparatus includes a divider that receives a differential input signal with a first frequency and two phases and creates a six-phase signal at a second frequency. The second frequency is the first frequency divided by 3. The apparatus also includes precision phase rotation circuitry that receives the six-phase signal and produces an eight-phase signal. The apparatus also includes a doubler that receives the eight-phase signal and produces a quadrature signal. The quadrature signal has a third frequency that is the first frequency divided by 1.5.

Although the duplexer in a full-duplex transceiver circuit may only be guaranteed by the duplexer manufacturer to have a transmit band rejection from its TX port to its RX port of a certain amount, and may only be guaranteed to have a receive band rejection of another amount, the actual transmit band rejection and the actual receive band rejection of a particular instance of the duplexer may be better than specified. Rather than consuming excess power in the receiver and/or transmitter in order to meet performance requirements assuming the duplexer only performs as well as specified, the duplexer's in-circuit performance is measured as part of a transmitter-to-receiver isolation determination. Transmitter and/or receiver power settings are reduced where possible to take advantage of the measured better-than-specified in-circuit duplexer performance, while still meeting transceiver performance requirements. Power settings are not changed during normal transmit and receive mode operation.
