A method for manufacturing platelet-shaped effect pigments includes the steps of a) providing a carrier substrate; b) applying aqueous washing ink droplets to the carrier substrate in first regions forming a first motif; c) applying a reflective coating to the carrier substrate such that a reflective coating is deposited on the carrier substrate in the form of a regular contiguous grid in second regions forming a second motif outside the first regions forming the first motif, wherein the first regions form the first motif and have the washing ink droplets form regular islands within the regular contiguous grid, and a reflective coating is deposited above the washing ink droplets in the first regions forming the first motif; and d) removing the washing ink droplets in the first regions together with the reflective coating present thereon and isolating the removed reflective coating in the form of platelet-shaped effect pigments.

An optically variable security element is provided for safeguarding articles of value. The security element has a feature layer containing, in a common plane, first and second feature regions arranged so as to accurately fit together. The first feature regions contain a first embossing lacquer layer of a first embossing lacquer into which an embossed structure that creates a first optical effect has been embossed. The second feature regions contain a second embossing lacquer layer of a second embossing lacquer into which an embossed structure that creates a second, different optical effect has been embossed. The first and second embossing lacquers have different solidification properties and different optical properties. A production process is provided for such an optically variable security element, and to embossing arrangements comprising a semi-finished security element product and means of impressing an embossed structure.

The invention concerns a security element having a magnetic coding consisting of magnetic coding elements. At least one of the magnetic coding elements has a grid-shaped magnetic region which is formed by a plurality of mutually parallel grid strips made of magnetic material which respectively have a magnetic anisotropy. The grid strips lead, through their magnetic anisotropy, to the magnetization direction of the coding element being able to differ from the direction of the applied magnetic field. Since the resultant magnetic signals that the grid-shaped magnetic regions deliver cannot be simulated by conventional magnetic regions, said coding elements increase the anti-forgery security of the security element.

The present invention relates to a method for producing a security element (), to a security element () obtainable by the method according to the invention, to transfer materials having the security elements according to the invention, and to objects of value secured with the security elements according to the invention. The security element () according to the invention has two functional layers () which are bonded together by means of a resist layer (). The resist layer () has a pattern which is employed to generate a congruent pattern in the first functional layer (). Then the pattern of the resist layer (), and thus also of the first functional layer (), is exactly reproduced in the second functional layer (). This is achieved by bonding the second functional layer () in the form of the pattern of the resist layer (). The non-bonded areas of the second functional layer () are removed, thereby forming negative writing.

Method for the production of security elements having registered layers of designs

The present invention relates to a method for producing a security element (), to a security element () obtainable by the method according to the invention, to transfer materials having the security elements according to the invention, and to objects of value secured by the security elements according to the invention. The security element () according to the invention has at least two functional layers (), whereby each functional layer forms a motif and the motifs are either congruent, or one motif represents a photographic negative of the other motif. In the method according to the invention, the motif of one functional layer () is transferred into the other functional layer () with the help of an adhesive layer (). In so doing, there is reproduced in the adhesive layer an exact image of the motif of the first functional layer, and said image of the motif in the adhesive layer is in turn employed for reproducing an exact image of said motif or of its photographic negative in the second functional layer. The transfer of the motif from one functional layer into the other is achieved by the adhesive having areas of varying adhesive strength, induced by irradiation through the first functional layer, and bonding to the second functional layer only in the strongly adhesive areas. The present invention relates to a security element for protecting valuable articles, having a first and a second authenticating feature. The first authenticating feature comprises a first arrangement having a plurality of focusing elements present in a first grid, and a second arrangement having a plurality of microscopic structures present in a second grid. Here, the first and second arrangement are disposed in such a way that the microscopic structures of the second arrangement are seen magnified when viewed through the focusing elements of the first arrangement.
